The Vacancy

The individual is a Senior Risk Consultant within the Enterprise Risk Management function at CNA Hardy. The role gives great exposure to a range of products and territories and provides the potential for further career development. The role covers three risk-bearing entities, CNA Insurance Company Limited, CNA Insurance Company Europe S.A, and Hardy Syndicate 382. The role benefits from being part of a well-established function with embedded systems and processes that have been continuously improved over time.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Support the organisation in applying methodologies to identify, review, quantify, monitor, manage and mitigate all risks, including strategic risks, faced by the business.
  2. Play a key role in embedding the risk management framework to ensure that enterprise risk management and a strong risk culture are embedded in the CNA Hardy operations.
  3. Support the development of risk appetites and support risk owners to manage within these.
  4. Work with Risk leadership to ensure that risk owners are empowered to take responsibility for their risks, through discussion and challenge, and providing support to ensure that risks are appropriately mitigated.
  5. Lead the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) process, ensuring the maintenance of the risk register and inventory of critical controls.
  6. Co-ordinate the Emerging Risk process, maintaining the emerging risk register.
  7. Support the business in their recording and submission of risk events, conducting root cause analysis and agreeing management actions to strengthen control environment.
  8. Co-ordinate the ORSA process and assist in the presentation of the ORSA report.
  9. Input to the process of setting regulatory capital requirements both using the Internal Model and Standard Formula calculations.
  10. Co-ordinate the production of Risk Committees and Boards reports, supporting Risk leadership in providing a clear understanding of the risk position and issues facing the firm, through appropriate reporting to help them reach informed decisions.
  11. Assist the business in improving results and managing volatility through the application of risk management techniques.
  12. Help to conduct risk reviews, ensuring that material business developments are reviewed and challenged to ensure that risk to the business are identified and appropriately mitigated.
  13. Support the purchase of the Corporate Insurances.
  14. Support other Risk-focused activities as required (e.g. Internal Model validation).

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  1. Good experience in an enterprise risk management role or a closely related discipline (e.g. Operational Risk Management).
  2. Demonstrable capability to take on more senior level roles in future career steps.
  3. Excellent commercial acumen and track record of working collaboratively across insurance disciplines in a company, syndicate or consulting environment: Underwriting, Executive Management, Risk, Claims, Finance, Reinsurance.
  4. Preference for experience in commercial non-life insurance.
  5. Strong knowledge of UK and European regulatory requirement (e.g. ORSA, system of governance requirements).
  6. Strong technical skills with deep knowledge of risk management methodologies used across the industry.
  7. Strong communicator, ability to distil complex issues into insightful management information and to deliver presentations with confidence.
  8. Good knowledge of insurance and reinsurance products.
  9. Expert IT systems skills, comfortable using Office software and data analytics tools and techniques.
  10. Educated to a minimum of degree level in a relevant field.
  11. Professional qualification relevant to risk management or to non-life insurance preferred.
  12. Minimum of seven years’ experience in enterprise risk management or a related discipline.
