Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Patient Catering team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals for a Catering Supervisor who is passionate about driving the Patient catering service. The Patient catering service is already rated within the top 10 trusts in the county according to the 2022 PLACE assessment, and we have ambitions to evolve this further

The post holder will be responsible for leading a team of 26 staff in the production of a range of meal items (salads, sandwiches, desserts) as well as the ordering and delivery control of a range of bought in ambient, chilled and frozen meal items. The post holder will also be key in the development of new home made ranges of items

The role is full time ( hrs per week), and follows a 2 week rolling shift pattern working various shift days including alternate weekends between 630am 430pm.

Please note, this is not a retail service or patient facing role but is based at the Receipt and Distribution Unit (RADU) based at Seacroft Hospital. This role involves working within a chilled production environment of between 5-10oC and occasionally within freezer at -18oC, environmental PPE is provided.

The recruitment process, after short listing, includes a short IT test and interview questions. The anticipated interview date is 22/05/24.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for the direct management of Patient Catering Staff on daily operational matters, , rotas, performance management, sickness management, appraisals, etc. You will manage food safety compliance in all aspects at the Receipt and Distribution Unit (RADU) based at Seacroft Hospital.

You will play an active role in the ongoing development of the catering service and drive patient menu development. Looking at ways to maintain or improve the efficiency of services and systems already used. Raising and taking proactive action on poor product quality in line with the department systems & procedures. Ensuring orders to suppliers are raised in a timely manner and in line with historical and reactive service needs.

We are seeking a candidate who can engage & motivate staff and colleagues to ensure delivery of a high standard patient catering service. You will provide assurance through training, coaching and mentoring as well as reviewing local processes and evaluation of various information sources with an emphasis on improving the patient experience.

Job responsibilities

A full job description is attached but key duties include:

Supervise the patient catering service provision in relation to the RADU and its activities.

Ensure compliance with relevant standards and reporting systems and be able to mitigate risks against service delivery.

Organising resources including staffing, technical equipment, stationary materials. Be responsible for the raising of stock orders to match the service needs using current & historical uptake levels

Responsibility for managing staff, including conduct, health and wellbeing/attendance, annual leave, induction, appraisals, task performance management, training and development, maintaining safe staffing levels, work planning, updating staff and pay related records.

Participate in the development of new procedures and changes to service provision.

Be a principle point of contact to address patient catering related issues or complaints and provide suitable resolutions.

Carry out assessments and audits for assurance and to improve service delivery

Utilise all technical systems for the efficient and effective management and delivery of all patient catering services.

Understanding of different dietary requirements and the impact of nutrition on patient recovery
