Job summary

Due to career progression of the current post holder, we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced healthcare professional to join the stroke ACP team. We currently have a vacancy for either a trainee or qualified stroke ACP.

The ideal candidate will be an autonomous practitioner, who will be responsible for the rapid assessment of patients presenting to the emergency department with stroke symptoms. They will also be required to request appropriate investigations and administer emergency treatments to patients presenting to hospital with stroke symptoms with support from the Stroke Consultant.

The Acute Stroke Service enables a seamless and high quality service, which is in line with stroke guidelines and targets, aims to provide excellence care for our patients. Aimingto reduce long-term disability, reduce mortality and provide comprehensive treatments as well as a holistic service to all patients.

Previous experience within the stroke speciality would be advantageous but is not essential, as full training will be provided to the successful candidate.

Informal visits are encouraged.

Main duties of the job

Triage all stroke referrals.

Identify patients eligible for reperfusion therapies and facilitate the patients' access to these treatments/interventions.Perform specialist stroke assessments such as a National Institute of Health Stroke Scale [NIHSS] and dysphagia assessments.

Work autonomously formulating clinical management plans in line with current guidelines in a patient-centred manner.

Participate in active research trials and audit programmes.

Provide specialist stroke training to members of the stroke MDT and other clinical specialities.
