We are looking for a motivated and versatile team player to join our therapy team within the Surgical and Vascular team to lead on the Surgery Wards, working within the MDT.

The Royal London Hospital is offering an opportunity for a Senior Occupational Therapist to work in a specialist role in the assessment, treatment, and clinical management of patients within surgery, with a particular focus on neuro-oncology and neurosciences.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for Occupational Therapy; excellent communication skills, plenty of initiative and enthusiasm with the ability to work autonomously and as a part of the wider MDT. 

This role also includes being involved, alongside the Clinical lead for surgery, in the development of the wider surgery Occupational Therapists, helping to develop their key OT skills and clinical reasoning and growing our future OT leaders.

Within Bart’s we offer a robust teaching and training programme with the opportunity to complete Quality Improvement and Audit projects, we provide a supportive and engaging environment to develop and grow our therapists. As a Band 7 Occupational Therapist you will 
have the opportunity to develop your own supervisory and management skills through supporting and supervising junior therapists and students. The ideal candidate will have a strong focus on quality improvement and education within surgery. 

The role is for a full-time post and includes covering a weekend Occupational Therapy service. 

Main duties of the job

To play a specialist role in the advanced assessment, treatment and clinical management of patients with Occupational Therapy needs across our elective and general surgery wards. This will be a split role between the OT specific clinical work (60%) and the development and support of our Occupational Therapists within the wider Surgery team (40%). To facilitate and support a multi-professional team approach within the clinical area. To work with the Clinical Lead Therapist to develop our OT`s within this service. Speciality areas include: Neuro-oncologyNeurosurgerySpinalGynae-oncologyLower Gastro-intestinal surgeryAAU (weekend working only)

Essential criteria

•Diploma/degree in OT •Registered with Health Professions Council •Documented evidence of CPD, in accordance with HPC recommendations

Desirable criteria

•Member of British Association of OT

Experience

Essential criteria

•Post registration experience working in an acute hospital setting •Experience as a senior OT •Post registration experience in relevant clinical setting: medical wards, neurosciences, other wards in an acute setting, palliative / end of life care •Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team •Experience supervising and appraising staff •Experience of audit/research

Knowledge

Essential criteria

•Good knowledge of current best practice in OT in relevant setting •Specialist clinical knowledge & skills in OT in neuro-oncology •In depth knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to client group
