We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and compassionate senior nurse, to lead the nursing team, alongside the existing matron, within the Emergency Department and Urgent Treatment Centre at Worthing Hospital. The newly appointed matron will work together with the existing matron and will be responsible for the professional and clinical leadership of all nursing staff, ensuring high quality standards of care are delivered in order to promote patient safety and a positive patient experience. It is expected that the successful applicant will have Adult and Paediatric NMC Registrations, as they will also oversee and be the identified nursing lead for our dedicated Paediatric Area.

Central to the role is the need to be resilient, innovative and proactive in your approach to managing the nursing team to support the national operational and access targets for Emergency Care. The ability to be extremely flexible in adapting to change quickly is also required, in not only supporting the nursing team but also in supporting the daily operational running of the site, to ensure safe staffing and timely patient flow through the ED. The successful candidate would be expected to have a minimum of 3 years experience as a Band 7 Senior Nurse within the ED setting and be a credible clinical practitioner, with the skills and knowledge to work proficiently within all areas of the department. 

Main duties of the job

The Matron will be a highly visible, accessible and authoritative presence in clinical areas to which patients, their families and others can turn for leadership, assistance, advice and support. The post holder will be part of the Divisional Nursing Leadership team with specific responsibility for the Emergency Department, (ED), including Paediatrics and our Urgent Treatment Centre, (UTC).
