Lynch Syndrome for example is an inherited genetic condition and represents the most common inherited cancer predisposition syndrome accounting for 5% of all colorectal (CRC) and 3% of all endometrial (EC) cancers. It affects as many as 1 in 270 people in the UK, but only 5% those affected have a diagnosis.

Cancer Alliance Planning Guidance for 2024/25 is to ensure Lynch Syndrome testing is in place for all newly diagnosed colorectal and endometrial cancers and to ensure that all patients who are identified as likely to have Lynch Syndrome are referred for specialised genetic testing in line with NICE guidelines .

These results inform our clinical colleagues of those patients that potentially have Lynch Syndrome and require further genetic referral.

The post holder will ensure that the eligible patients' samples will progress through the Pathway.

This position is not a technical scientific post, and whilst the post is based at St. Georges' Hospital however the post holder may be required to work at any of the South West London Pathology sites as and when necessary.
