An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in Paediatric Haematology to join our friendly Paediatric Haematology and Oncology team at Leicester Royal Infirmary Hospital.

The Paediatric, Teenage and Young Adult haematology/oncology inpatient unit iscurrently based on ward 27 at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. The unit is divided withyounger paediatric patients and the Teenage Cancer Trust Unit for TYA patients. The medical and nursing staff care for patients from 0 to25 years of age on the ward and within the adjacent haematology/oncology daycareand clinic area.

The East Midlands Teenage and Young Adult Integrated Cancer Service (TYAICS)Teenage and young adult malignant haematology in Leicester is part of the EastMidlands Teenage and Young Adult Integrated Cancer Service (TYAICS). TYAICS isin congruence with the Children's Cancer Service Model (East Midlands Children'sand Young Person's Integrated Cancer Service - EMCYPICS). The East MidlandsTYA Principal Treatment Centre (PTC) is based at The Queens Medical Centre andCity Campuses at Nottingham University Hospitals, and Leicester Royal Infirmary at11the University Hospitals of Leicester as a joint service delivered across all threesites. The overlap with the children's model facilitates clear links and close workingfor transition from children's services to TYA services.

Main duties of the job

Lead for non-malignant paediatric general haematology and either paediatrichaemophilia/bleeding disorders or red cell haematology Clinical care of paediatric non-malignant haematology patients and the associatedlaboratory work Paediatric haematology advice to other teams within the Childrens' hospital Regional paediatric haematology advice to paediatricians as well as advice to local GPs Participation in weekly local and regional MDT's Share bone marrow and intrathecal list duties with colleagues Ward attending duties covering inpatients and day care for all paediatric, teenage and young adult patients in the haematology/oncology unit - currently 1:5 commitment Out of hours paediatric haematology/oncology cover shared with the 5 paediatric haematology/oncology consultants - currently 1:5 commitment. Out of hours cover for paediatric non-malignant haematology including haemoglobinopathy and bleeding and thrombosis is provided by the adult haematology service. Young adult TYA cancer patients are initially reviewed and assessed by the general paediatric team who then escalate as necessary to the adult haematology/oncology teams who are ultimately responsible for these patients out of hours.
