Job summary

The Violence Reduction Partnership Youth WorkProgramme aims to embed youth work teams within Urgent Care and EmergencyDepartments at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust (MYTT), to engage with youngpeople aged 11-25 who have been impacted by violence or exploitation whopresent at the Urgent Care and Emergency Department and/or are admitted tohospital following a violent incident.

Urgent Care Youth Workers will provide ahospital-based intervention service that supports young people followingpresentation at hospital and prior to discharge with an injury caused byviolence or exploitation or who demonstrate violent or concerning behaviourwhilst in hospital. The role will also involve some work with patients in thecommunity. The post holder will be part of a team working alongside hospitalstaff to proactively identify vulnerable young people. Youth Workers will helpthese young people to access and engage the support they need to prevent anypotential escalation of violence and reduce the risk of repeat victimisation orexploitation.

Main duties of the job

Urgent Care Youth Workers will be offer trauma informed, emotional and practical support in anon-judgmental way to navigate them way away from violence, criminalactivity, or other harms (whether they are a victim, perpetrator, or both).This could include signposting and referring onto statutory or communityorganisations to help the young person with mental health needs, housing,employment, education and training, substance misuse, relationships andsupporting young people to make informed decisions about their next steps.

This is a new role working in partnership with Mid-Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust.

The Urgent Care Youth Workers will work alongside the Urgent Care and Emergency Departments at Pinderfields Hospital.

Job responsibilities

The postholder will:

Provide aservice for young people who present at Emergency Departments with injuriesfrom violent incidents or who present with violent behaviour to navigate theminto relevant support.

Engageand support young people, adopting strength-based approaches and the principlesof co-production and social inclusion.

Work aspart of a Multidisciplinary Team to support risk assessment and deliver a highstandard of support with positive outcomes.

Provideadvice to young people, carers, families and professionals across the wholesystem; this may involve signposting and liaison.

Promotepositive partnerships, collaborative working and establish and maintain closeand effective relationships with all stakeholders.

Maintainclose links with other services to facilitate appropriate interventions and escalation.

Build a relationship of trust with young people and understand theimportance of empowering them.

Identify barriers to support of the youngperson and gaps in services.

Work inpartnership with the Here for You Manager and Complex Needs Team Manager and to access support each week to manage personalwellbeing.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Developand maintain positive and professional relationships with young people, staff,and other youth support agencies. Provideemotional and practical support and advice to enable young people to improvetheir quality of life, develop understanding of how to improve their health, addresseducational and social development needs and make decisions about their future. Have goodawareness of and identify services available in the statutory and third sectorand utilise as needed to support young people in their recovery. Undertakeinitial needs and risk assessment, safety planning and baseline outcome measureswith the young person. Encourageand motivate young people to engage with staff and other agencies and inmeaningful activities to meet individual goals. Provide1-1 support, advice and advocacy to young people and their families to meet theneeds of young victims of violence. Respond andliaise appropriately to safeguard the wellbeing of all young people and staff inline with children and adult safeguarding and Touchstone and MYTT policies andprotocols. Maintain accurate records of work undertaken with youngpeople around their support and any other records including statisticalinformation/data as required. Useaccurate note taking to record presentation, activity and forward planning onthe NHS data management system in accordance with required timescales. Attendand participate in team meetings as required. Manageown caseload to engage and connect young people to relevant support services withinappropriate time frames. Communicatesensitively, accurately, and effectively with all parties. Access additionalservices where required translation services, communication aids, visualaids. Work inthe context of an equal opportunities framework and promote equality in allareas of work. Adhere toconfidentiality in line with Touchstone and MYTT - GDPR and confidentialityprocedures. Assistwith the ongoing development and promotion of the service to ensure youngpeople gain the maximum benefit from interventions. GENERAL

Attend afull induction programme and to be inducted, supervised, performance managedand appraised in line with the organisations performance management policiesand procedures. Attend and participatein regular clinical supervision within the team. Beresponsible for personal learning and development and undertake appropriatetraining, both mandatory and optional to increase knowledge, skills and awareness. Visitrelevant external agencies who work with people in mental health crisis. Attendregular support sessions, reflective practice, supervision and performancereviews with the Here for You Manager and Complex Needs Team Manager in line withperformance management policies and procedures. Work atall times as part of a team. This includes working with other staff, attendingteam and staff meetings and developing a teamwork approach to all aspects ofthe organisations work. Beflexible in the approach to hours of work including evening, nights, weekendsand bank holiday work as required by the service. Be awareof and employ the general practices of MYTT/Touchstone regarding safeguarding andsecurity, health and safety policies and ensure these are adhered to, at alltimes.
