The currentvacancy is based at our Sunderland Royal hospital site in OutpatientsDepartment. The post offers a stimulating and challenging opportunity to gainknowledge, skills and experience in Rheumatology medicine, working closely withthe specialist medical team

We are looking to recruit an individual who is passionate aboutproviding high quality and compassionate care to our patients. We are lookingfor a clinical leader who will demonstrate role modelling, empowerment, andsupport to our clinical team and provide leadership, team development and highquality nursing care.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellentcommunication skills, team working skills and will be dedicated to improvingthe patients' experience. You will need to demonstrate continuing professionaldevelopment and a strong commitment to develop others and work closely within amulti-disciplinary team. The Lead Specialist Nurse will be expected to supportthe Matron and the Rheumatology Team to maintain a patient focused positiveexperience and environment.

Job responsibilities

To lead and coordinate the delivery and development of the specialist service through the use of effective evidence based practice in line with agreed national standards for patient safety and monitoring. To contribute to the organisation of multidisciplinary, patient centred care. To be accountable for the planning and delivery of safe, effective and compassionate patient care in relation to dedicated pathways of care, working as an autonomous practitioner within the specialism. To provide specialist clinical advice and support to patients and clinical staff within the Trust on the assessment, management and care of patients within the specialist area. To continuously improve clinical care standards in line with the clinical governance framework. To exercise accountability as set out in the NMC/HCPC Code. To ensure effective communication internally and externally regarding patient care and resources. Provide education and training to clinical staff across the Trust. Provide expert specialist clinical advice and support to patients and clinical staff within the Trust on the management and care of patients within the specialist area. To provide direct access for patients, either face to face or telephone consultation To represent the service nationwide. To play a key role in ensuring that national and local standards/targets for specialist area are met. To manage/lead nurse led clinics in relation to reviewing patients and play a key role in optimising complex treatment regimes, facilitating hospital discharge and preventing avoidable hospital admissions. To undertake research relevant to the needs of the specialist area. To comply with the trusts vision, values and behavioural compact Person Specification

Essential

Ability to assist patients to move as per Trust Moving and Handling Policy.

Qualifications

Essential

Current NMC Registration (Level 1 adult nurse) . Degree in nursing studies or healthcare related subject. Mentorship qualification/equivalent and or Practice Assessor training.

Desirable

Management and leadership training. ILM qualification.

Experience

Essential

Experience of care delivery. Experience managing a team Roster management HR experience Experience of the specialism biologics / early arthritis Experience of leading a team/supporting junior staff. Evidence of innovation in practice. Experience of change management. Evidence of practice development. Experience of coordinating care

Desirable

Experience of working at Band 6 and/or Band 7. Experience of service redesign

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

Evidence of leadership qualities. Awareness of national health and social care policy. Knowledge of best practice in area of specialism. Thorough understanding of expanded roles/professional practice issues. Ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information, where persuasive, motivational, negotiating, training, empathic or reassurance skills are required. Able to work without supervision. Competent in the use of Microsoft office packages. Proven interpersonal skills. Practice assessor/ supervision skills. Appraisal skills. Evidence of competency in relation to nursing practices appropriate to the post.

Desirable

Understanding of budget and financial control systems. Research skills.
