Nottingham, United Kingdom Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trusts Full time

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the multidisciplinary team of the Nottingham Auditory Implant Programme (NAIP), one of the leading establishments in cochlear implantation for severe and profoundly deaf adults and children.

We are looking for an experienced Clinical Psychologist to provide specialist assessment and intervention for adults with severe to profound hearing loss and also, ideally, older children with similar needs (from age 13). Candidates will ideally have experience of service delivery across the lifespan, working with patients with hearing impairment, and the use of cognitive assessments in clinical care (specialist neuropsychology expertise would be an advantage but is not essential). The position is well supported and would access clinical supervision from a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist. The post holder will also contribute to departmental activities, including research and clinical governance as required.

The post will be based within the NAIP team at the Ropewalk House site of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (close to Nottingham city centre). The role will also involve travel to Queens Medical Centre Campus and occasionally City Hospital Campus, Nottingham University Hospitals.

Working days must include those on which NAIP team and MDT meetings are held, in order to attend essential meetings on those days .

Candidates must be registered with the HCPC as a Clinical Psychologist.

Main duties of the job

This position will provide a specialist clinical psychology assessment and intervention service for adults and older children (typically over 13 years) engaged with the Nottingham Auditory Implant Programme (NAIP). NAIP provides cochlear implantation for severely and profoundly deaf adults and children, and is one of the leading establishments in the field with an international reputation. This post represents an exciting opportunity and challenge to develop the role and become an integrated member of this established and experienced multidisciplinary team.

The postholder will lead a highly specialised clinical psychology service to NAIP patients, on the basis of advanced theoretical and practical knowledge acquired through a degree, postgraduate doctoral degree (or equivalent) and additional specialist training.

This will include evaluating complex psychological issues relating to hearing loss and suitability for cochlear implantation. It is anticipated that initially, the postholder will conduct most psychosocial assessment directly and/or collaboratively with team members.

The postholder will provide therapeutic intervention for adult and teenage patients and their families/carers where appropriate.

The postholder will be responsible, where appropriate and in collaboration with the Head of NAIP and Director of Psychology for the planning, delivery and evaluation of Clinical Psychology Services for NAIP.
