The Assistant Service Manager will work closely with the service manager and general manager to provide a highly effective and efficient service delivery for the division. The post holder will have an operational lead role for all administrative functions with additional responsibilities, working under the direction of the service manager.
The post holder will have a key role in delivering the operational plan and supporting the divisional strategy. The post holder will work closely with other divisions and corporate departments, procurement, finance, workforce and organisational development to improve the quality and effectiveness of all services provided. The post holder will provide effective service management in respect of business planning, finance, human resources, health and safety and general operational issues.
Support the development of service line reporting and service line management across the division
You should have excellent communication skills, be able to demonstrate your leadership capabilities and the ability to motivate your colleagues, and excel at building positive relationships.
Main duties of the job
Support the Service Manager in the daily management of the diabetic ward, outpatients, including clinic capacity, utilisation and coordinating staffing rotas To monitor staff absenteeism through sickness and fully implement the appropriate policies. Support the delivery and evaluation of the division's quality and safety ensuring standards of service requirement Undertake investigations into PALS, formal complaints, untoward incidents and disciplinary incidents, providing a comprehensive report of findings using Datix To represent the division at various meetings as required such as performance review, capacity planning meeting, clinical board meetings, etc. Work with the service manager to achieve relevant corporate objectives and to deliver the operating plan Develop and co-ordinate effective methods for determining user views on the services provided by the division. Undertake audits as appropriate and develop action plans to address any outcome To take part in the Bronze rota and assist the site team with patient flow Where appropriate represent the division at various local and national forum Monitor activity performance through validation of the 18 week PTL Seek support from the service manager where corrective action has been unable to rectify shortfalls in performance

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) provides a full range of general acute, outpatient and diagnostic services at The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, the Herts and Essex Hospital in Bishop's Stortford, and St Margaret's Hospital in Epping.
We employ 3,500 staff and serve a local population of around 350,000 people living in west Essex and east Hertfordshire, centred on the M11 corridor and the towns of Harlow, Bishop's Stortford and Epping.
