Lead Veterinary Surgeon - St Albans

We are looking for an experienced and dedicated Lead Veterinary Surgeon to join our team in St Albans. This role offers an excellent opportunity to lead a clinic from both a clinical and operational perspective. Role Overview

As the Lead Veterinary Surgeon, you will oversee all aspects of clinic performance, ensuring excellence across clinical, financial, and team management areas. You will be supported by a leadership team but will have autonomy to lead and make decisions within the framework of our values. This position involves managing and developing the veterinary team, as well as the Nursing Director and Practice Director, to ensure the highest standard of patient and client care.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership:

  • Lead clinical delivery within the practice, ensuring the highest standards of care for our patients.
  • Allocate 80% of your time to clinical work, allowing you to lead by example and support your team.
  • Promote teamwork and create an environment where all team members work to their maximum potential.
  • Implement clinical audits, address any performance issues, and ensure evidence-based practices.

Business Performance:

  • Drive client membership and acquisition initiatives, working closely with the membership manager to achieve growth targets.
  • Collaborate on local clinic strategy, overseeing critical areas including HR, recruitment, health & safety, and client care.
  • Budget management and financial planning, with a focus on key performance indicators (KPIs) to influence the clinic's profitability.

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Be the clinical figurehead for the practice, providing veterinary leadership to the team.
  • Conduct regular performance conversations, manage direct reports, and ensure effective communication and development within the team.
  • Foster a culture of respect, inclusion, and well-being, supporting team members through mental health awareness and open communication.

Client Experience:

  • Ensure every client experience is exceptional, with clear and empathetic communication.
  • Oversee the handling of client complaints, ensuring prompt resolution and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in local community events to promote the clinic and its values.
