Job Title: Water Resource Planning Manager

Location: Falmer

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: 37 hours

Salary: circa £60k dependent on skills & experience

There has never been a better time to join our organisation as we build towards a greener future, tackling climate change, minimising our environmental impact and reducing our carbon footprint

Job Overview

The Water Resource Planning Manager is responsible for the Water Resource Planning team with responsibility to deliver the company's regulatory 50-year Water Resource Management Plan (WRMP) and 5-year Drought Plan. These plans are crucial for the planning of future demand versus water resource base and investment requirements over a long planning horizon. The role is key to contributing to the company meeting its strategic objective of “a constant supply of high-quality drinking water” and “looking after the environment”.

Responsible for the development and implementation of an improved capability for water supply-demand planning including the WRMP to satisfy internal and regulatory requirements – insourcing, contract management and training of team. Responsible for the development, coordination and review of the company’s water resources strategy to satisfy Environment Agency (EA), Natural England (NE), Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) and government policy on environmental regulation. Responsible for the business cases to allow investigation, development and implementation of preferred WRMP options. Accountable for management, preparation and presentation of material for internal or external audit and assurance, including resolution of escalated issues.

About You

You need to be an autonomous worker with an entrepreneurial mindset. You may not be a qualified engineer but will understand some of the terminology with the ability ‘speak the language’. Strong environmental experience with drought management along with how to manage extraction. Understand, formulate and present data and reports; with the ability to translate technical language to a non-technical audience. You will have experience of developing a team and individual capability via performance management, coaching and support

Package

This role will be full time Monday to Friday with a hybrid approach to working between our Falmer office and home.

We are offering a salary of circa £60,000 per annum depending on skills and experience as well as other benefits including:

• Company and performance-related bonus

• Generous pension with up to 11% company contribution

• Life assurance payment equal to four times your annual salary

• Health benefits through a Cash Plan

• Two paid community volunteering days a year

• 25 days annual holiday

• Occupational health service

• Stars Reward gateway offering discounts and savings on several products and experiences

• Study support may be available for job-related qualifications

• We offer competitive maternity leave and flexible return to work options

Join our Water Resource Planning team and see how far your career could progress with a company committed to career progression, training and development opportunities, our customers and the environment.

Does this opportunity excite you but you’re not 100% sure if you meet all the requirements for the role? Or are you concerned that ‘normal’ office hours aren’t possible given your personal circumstances? Whilst we can’t accommodate every flexible working request, we’ll try to find a practical solution. So why not engage with us and find out more about this role?

Our customers are at the heart of everything we do, because delivering water for life is our core purpose. To achieve this, we need 24/7 support in place to resolve incidents quickly and efficiently. All our employees understand the importance of out-of-hours incident support – because when problems appear, fixing them is our top priority. That’s why our people join together and support when and however needed to make sure our customers get the service they deserve. Joining the Southern Water family means you’ll become part of our incident support team. During your interview, your manager will speak to you about any incident support rotas that apply to your position.

Privacy Statement:

Please note: If you are an existing Southern Water employee, you will need to confirm within your application that your Manager is aware of your application.

All applicants must be eligible to live and work in the UK. You will need to provide evidence of eligibility (e.g. a passport or long birth certificate and proof of NI) and current proof of address (dated within the last 3 months), will be required as part of the recruitment process. If you do not meet these criteria, your application will not be considered.
