The Cambridge Genomics Laboratory is pleased to be recruiting Healthcare Scientists with experience working in a Haemato-Oncology diagnostics laboratory. There are several vacancies being recruited to in the Cytogenomic, Molecular and Lymphoma teams. You would be an HCPC Registered Clinical Scientist, or within a year of achieving Clinical Scientist registration. HCPC registered Scientists with suitable experience and qualifications will be appointed at Band 7, and those working towards registration will be appointed at Band 6 until registered, subject to agreed departmental timelines.
The Cambridge Genomics Laboratory is the lead laboratory of the East GLH. The East Genomic Laboratory Hub (East GLH) is one of seven hubs in the Genomic Medicine Service. Delivering Cancer Genomics testing to 31 NHS Trusts, serving over 9m people, is complex and challenging. It is a busy workplace undergoing transformation. You will be able to analyse and report complex information to provide clinically relevant and timely reports to requesting clinicians.
You will join a dynamic establishment that is keenly developing its staff, making a real difference to patients who are benefitting from the latest genomic testing technology.
Main duties of the job
1. Analysis, interpretation, reporting and authorization of hematology cancer cytogenomic / molecular genomic tests2. Deliver and maintain a high-quality diagnostic service to regional oncology services3. Provide advice to clinicians and colleagues4. Manage a small team of scientists by recruiting, training and supporting continual personal development5. Ensure the continuous improvement and development of laboratory services6. Ensure the continued ISO:15189 compliance of the laboratory using the quality management system

Essential
First degree in an appropriate biological science or equivalent qualification Assessed completion of formal training programme in genomics, clinical molecular genetics, cytogenetics or cancer genetics ( MSc or similar) OR Experience externally assessed as being equivalent Registration as a Healthcare Scientist (Clinical Scientist or Biomedical Scientist) with the Health Care Professions Council

Membership of relevant professional organisation ( ACGS, AHCS, BSGM, IBMS)

Significant work experience in a Clinical Diagnostic Genetics laboratory, working as a Clinical/Biomedical Scientist, undertaking routine and complex genomic tests Analysing genomic data and reporting genomics tests Acting as a duty scientist or team leader
Knowledge

To have a thorough knowledge of human cytogenetics and/or cancer genetics Knowledge of the processes involved in examining cancer samples in a clinical cytogenetic / molecular genetic laboratory To have a good knowledge of analytical methods and processes used for reporting cytogenomic / molecular genomic test results
