Main duties of the job

Spencer Private Hospitals (SPH) are pleased to be advertising for the post of an Operating Department Practitioner . SPH is an independent health care provider who offers the opportunity for the successful candidate to work in theatre caring for patients who are undergoing elective surgical procedures. There range from the simple day cases to the more complex large bowel operations. This breadth of service offers variety and challenge for the successful candidates.

About us

We are building upon our strategy for growth and expansion and are looking to expand our nursing teams.

We provide a variety of services across East Kent, which include in patient, Day case, outpatients, Diagnostics, lifestyle and wellbeing services including options via the choose and book option in their care pathway.

Our principle sites are in Margate and Ashford with an outpatient provision in Canterbury.

JOB PURPOSE

To perform operating department duties under the direction of the TheatreManager and assist the Consultants and work colleagues in a professional mannerto ensure the smooth running, efficiency and high standards of patient care andsafety. To maintain professional and individual accountability

Highly developed physical/clinical skills where accuracy is important Manual handling of patients and manoeuvring heavy instrumentation and equipment Frequent unpleasant working conditions; contact with body fluids, foul linen daily Daily contact with substances hazardous to health

Qualifications

Operating Department Practitioner HPC Registered

Desirable

Diploma in Health Care Studies

Experience

Essential

Ability to assess, plan and evaluate patient care Knowledge of research and evidence-based practice Catalyst for change Teaching and assessing/mentorship, or willing to undertake Knowledge of CQC HLS Teaching (Anaes)

Desirable

Multiskilling - demonstrate competency in recovery and Endoscopy

Skills

IT skills Leadership, interpersonal and organisational skills Ability to work as member of a team Dealing with emergency situations within operating theatre department
