These roles provide a fantastic opportunity for you to build key foundations and shape the narrative, that will provide AXA the exposure and scope required for growth.
It's an exciting time to join the AXA Commercial team in Birmingham, as we undergo significant growth across our branches to support the overall strategic business plan. We're currently looking to strengthen the team and bring to market the opportunity to join us a Property & Casualty Underwriter within the Existing Business Team.
The role encompasses many opportunities to contribute to the development and success of the branch account, not just from a growth and profitability perspective but driving service excellence to our customers. The team ensure close collaboration is supported internally across the teams to be set up for success, as well as engaging and building key relationships with the brokers and panel aligned business developers.

We do this with training and tailored development plans.What you'll be doing: As Commercial Underwriter you'll help drive and transform how we partner our broker portfolios, through responsive, flexible, and collaborative relationships. With a strong balance of technical and trading capability, you'll be empowered to make decisions, supported by data, insight, and decision support tools on mobile technology to succeed. You'll be focused on developing and delivering profitable growth, through our existing book of business, as well as contributing to the acquisition of new business.
Underwrite Property & Casualty business profitably, accurately, consistently and in line with established underwriting practices, using the full range of tools available. Build a reputation as a trading expert with a panel of intermediaries and build confidence in the branch ability through interaction with our Underwriting Technical Centre. Contribute to meetings with brokers and end customers to portray AXA capabilities and secure new business opportunities. Identify poorly performing accounts and investigate reasons for lack of retention. Agree and implement actions with senior underwriter, TTM & AM to increase retention. Actively encourage retention of profitable business.At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least 40% of your week away from home, either at one of our office locations, visiting clients or attending industry events.
About you

Dip CII Qualification or working towards ACII qualification. Exposure to the UK General Insurance market. Commercial awareness, negotiation skills, ability to build strong broker relationships. Pragmatic and confident decision maker with good numerical reasoning skills. Strong analytical skills with proven experience of account monitoring and action planning. Technical underwriting expertise in a composite insurance environment (non-package). Sound knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements for insurance (including treating customers fairly).This position has been defined as an Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) role under the IDD regime which means that in addition to pre-employment screening checks, the successful candidate will be subject to background screening every 4 years with an annual declaration in interim years.
