Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Intermediate Neuro-Rehabilitation Unit (INRU) Therapy team at Trafford General Hospital for a Senior Rehabilitation Assistant. A compassionate nature, effective communication and organisation skills are required to successfully work in this setting.

You will be able to use your initiative to prioritise your working day effectively to see patients and complete non patient contact tasks. The post will involve providing both administrative and clinical duties and a proactive approach to contributing to the work undertaken by the team is a must.

You will work with a variety of patients presenting with brain and spinal cord injuries. You will provide therapy based on treatment plans provided by Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech and Language Therapy.

You will be joining a supportive and dynamic team with experienced clinicians who will assist you to develop your role as a senior rehabilitation assistant using specialist competency-based training. You will be encouraged and supported to develop your clinical skills as well as contribute towards service development and clinical audit.

The post involves contributing to the weekend rota.

Main duties of the job

To work with patients to achieve their identified rehabilitation goals, which have been set by the qualified therapists, through a wide range of specialist therapeutic activities. , skilled therapeutic handling, mobilising, personal care and domestic activities, cognitive, speech and swallow rehabilitation exercises and supporting discharge planning including ordering of equipment and completing home visits.

Following delegation by the qualified therapist, carry out agreed therapeutic treatment plans, working unsupervised after successful completion of relevant competencies.

To analyse and evaluate patient performance, using agreed parameters of treatment programme, set by qualified staff and make suggestions for improvement.

To correct patient's performance during treatment sessions if required and provide feedback to qualified member of staff.

To communicate with patients to gain consent to treatment, and to ensure patients understanding, co-operation and compliance.

To communicate information from the assessment and treatment to patients, carers, other family members, members of the MDT and other professionals and agencies

To be competent in treating patients in a group/class setting as well as on an individual basis.

To contribute to weekend/ 7 day/evening service cover, as required.

Organise stock controls, supply and maintenance of materials and equipment.

To keep accurate clinical records.
