We are looking to recruit a highly motivated Senior Clinical Fellow to join our Colorectal Surgery team at the Royal London Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust. This 1-year post will be suitable for trainees at peri-CCT level or candidates aiming for post-CCT experience focusing on pelvic floor disorders, complex benign conditions and robotic surgery.
The ‘Colorectal Surgery and Pelvic Floor Services’ at the Royal London Hospital (RLH) is part of the department of general surgery, which also has specialist divisions of HPB surgery and upper GI surgery. At the Royal London Hospital there are 6- substantive full- and part-time consultant colorectal surgeons (1 Queen Mary University of London academic appointment) with others covering surgery at RLH from other sites in specific areas such as colorectal cancer.
Main duties of the job
The prestigious colorectal surgery services at the Royal London hospital serves patients from east London and afar and runs a full spectrum of activities including in-patient and out-patient care, support endoscopy services, and has well established inter-disciplinary working with other cancer services (gynae-oncology, HPB), gynaecology for endometriosis, IBD unit for surgical care of IBD patients, intestinal failure, and HIV team for patients with anogenital neoplasia. The colorectal unit at RLH hosts the pelvic floor services including the GI physiology unit and has joint working with gynaecology and urogynaecology experts. The fellow position offers exposure and training in all aspects of colorectal surgery but will focus on the management of pelvic floor conditions and complex, benign colorectal conditions including major IBD surgery, abdominal wall reconstruction and complex proctology. There may be opportunities to train in GI physiology investigations during this post.
The Royal London hospital is the designated site for the Barts health NHS trusts ‘complex abdominal and pelvic surgery’ unit and the colorectal unit will play a key role in this exciting development offering significant training opportunities for the post holder.
