This exciting role will provide you with the opportunity to develop your clinical skills and enhance your understanding of all aspects of Breast and endocrine surgery. This post is ideal for someone who is aiming to complete their training and to make the transition to independent practice. The job plan includes participation in up to 7 theatre sessions weekly covering the full range of breast cancer resectional and reconstructive surgery as well endocrine surgery for both benign and malignant conditions. You will be allocated set clinic templates and be expected to provide support to our team of allied health professionals including breast care nurses, advanced nurse practitioners, junior doctors and physician associates. The post holder is expected to develop their leadership and teamwork skills through rota management, participation in our academic and audit programme as well as through engagement in theatre, outpatients and on the ward.

**Main Duties/Key Results Areas**:
SpR level (ST6 equivalent or above) in Breast and Endocrine duties are:
Caring for outpatients
- The individual will be allocated set clinics as defined in their job plan
- The individual will see new patients in the 2-week rule pathway
- They will also see routine follow-ups
- They are expected to explain results to patients either at the time of new diagnosis or post surgery
- There will be opportunities to see patients who require or have undergone reconstructive breast surgery
- There will be opportunities to manage patients who seek bilateral breast reduction
- The job plan allows for time to complete administrative tasks
- The post holder will receive formal mentorship and support in outpatients.
- The post holder will be expected to provide support to our team of allied health professionals in outpatients including breast care nurses, advanced nurse practitioners, clinic nurses, junior doctors and physician associates.

St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the regional specialist care provider for South-West London, Surrey and beyond. The trust is a major acute hospital that provides a high quality, comprehensive range of health services from leading edge tertiary care including trauma, neurology, cardiac care, renal transplantation, cancer care and stroke to community services. The hospital also provides all the usual care expected from a local NHS district general hospital.

Acute and tertiary health services are delivered from over 1,000 beds across two sites, by around 9,000 staff. With national and regional referrals added to our local catchment of 3.5 million, we serve a population of around 5 million.

Co-located with the trust is St George’s, University of London, a medical school with 270 students per year. Both the trust and the medical school have a formal strategic alliance with King’s Health Partners. Together, the trust and medical school delivers high quality research and education both of which contribute to the healthcare provision of tomorrow.

The Trust has a devolved clinical management structure managed through a network of Care Groups. Each Care Group is managed by a Care Group lead and a Service Manager. General Surgery comprises three firms each with a general surgical commitment and a special interest - Colorectal, Breast and Upper GI.

Caring of inpatients
- The post-holder will participate in up to 7 theatre sessions covering the full range of breast resectional and reconstructive surgery as well as surgery for benign breast conditions.
- There will be opportunities to collaborate with our on-site plastic surgeons to provide the immediate autologous reconstructive service. For the senior fellow, this will include performing skin sparing mastectomies.
- There will also be training in a broad range of endocrine procedures including surgery for benign and malignant thyroid and parathyroid conditions as well laparoscopic and open adrenalectomies.
- The post-holder will receive mentorship and supervision in theatres with the aim that they will acquire the surgical competency to perform most procedures independently during their time in the unit.
- They will also provide leadership to the junior team to support their consultant in the smooth running of theatre lists including overseeing list organization, patient preparation and post-operative care in recovery and on the ward.

Self-development
- There will be a session allocated to self-development during which the post-holder will be expected to develop their leadership and teamwork skills by taking a leading role in rota management (with administrative support). Self-development time may also be used to explore additional theatre opportunities such as in plastic surgery theatres and in day surgery.
