Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a confident,enthusiastic, and motivated individual to work within the Cancer ServicesDepartment in County Durham & Darlington Acute NHS Foundation Trust.

This post is part time hours and will be based ateither Darlington Memorial Hospital or University Hospital of North Durham.

Our team is currently working under Agileworking agreements, working a mix of on-site and remotely from their home baseand once fully trained the post holder will also adopt this working pattern.

Main duties of the job

You will track patients referred with suspected cancer andrecord data within a dedicated system, using other trust systems to findrelevant information. You will also and provide comprehensive administrativesupport for Cancer Site-Specific Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDT) meetings,collating lists of patients to be discussed and collecting information requiredfor the meetings. You will need to work to tight deadlines so that MDT membersare notified in advance and can prepare for their role in the meeting.

This is a developmental role and you will beexpected, after a period of training, to cover MDT meetings which involvesrecording a summary of discussions at the meeting, projected live to MDTmembers.

We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities

The Cancer Pathway Support Officer will be an integral partof a small Cancer Pathway team supporting the Cancer Pathway Coordinator toensure high level MDT provision, including collation of relvant clinicalinformation for meetings, inputting data direct from MDT meetings, distributionof MDT documentation to primary and secondary care as necessary. This role isdevelopmental with the aim of the post holder being responsible for anallocated MDT Meeting once fully trained.The Cancer Pathway Support Officer will record summaries of discussionsat MDT meetings, projected live to MDT members

You will work alongside our Cancer PathwayCoordinators to ensure effective co-ordination of pathways for patients withsuspected or diagnosed cancer and that information is recorded accurately forCancer Waiting Time targets. Althoughyou will have no direct contact with patients and their families you will workclosely with the appropriate teams to ensure that their journey is seamless andwill make a valuable contribution to the improvement of both quality andexperience.

Essential

Ability to input data for significant periods of time using a VDU. Ability to transport laptops using appropriate equipment. Ability to concentrate on tasks whilst managing frequent interruptions. Ability to cope with exposure to details regarding patients that may be distressing. Ability and willingness to travel across the trust sites as required. Positive attitude towards change.

Experience

Essential

Experience in an administrative / secretarial role.

Desirable

Previous experience of working in the NHS in an administrative role.

Qualifications

Essential

GCSE English and Mathematics grades A-C or equivalent Secretarial / Administrative training and / or experience

Desirable

NVQ 3 / 4 in business administration or equivalent experience/qualification

Ability to take accurate notes and summarise actions appropriately at meetings. Ability to work effectively with a low level of direct supervision. Ability to work effectively as a member of several teams. Awareness for the need for confidentiality at all times. Computer literacy ability to use a wide variety of systems. Demonstrate ability to work to specific deadlines

Desirable

Knowledge of appropriate legislation with regards to sharing patient and staff data and protecting confidentiality. Awareness of the Cancer Waiting Times targets and their application to the management of patient pathways. Ability to contribute to the improvement of patient pathways. Experience/training in NHS hospital systems
