Aberdeen, United Kingdom NHS Grampian Full time

NHS Grampian Clinical Health Psychology Services

Band 8a Applied Psychologist

Full time (37 hours 1.0 WTE) but with the opportunity to work part time if required (18.5 hours 0.5 WTE)

Aberdeen Royal Infirmary/Health Village

NHS Grampian

The Acute Clinical Health Psychology Service is seeking a Band 8a Applied Psychologist to provide a specialised psychology service to the Gastroenterology team based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and the Pain Management team (based at the Health Village, Frederick Street, Aberdeen).

Aberdeen is a vibrant city, with good transport links, situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty next to the Cairngorm National Park, and miles of beautiful coastline.

This is an exciting professional development opportunity, well suited to a recently or newly qualified HCPC registered Applied psychologist (clinical, health or counselling, with evidence of necessary competencies). The post holder will be part of a strong, supportive psychology team which spans a number of rapidly developing multi-disciplinary services. The post holder’s time will work 18.5 hours in the Gastroenterology service with patients with metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and 18.5 hours in the pain team.

The post holder will be responsible for delivery and audit of the psychology service to include routine assessment, individual and group interventions, supervision, consultation and training. There are a number of service developments currently ongoing in both the gastroenterology and pain teams and the post holder would be expected to contribute to these, including aspects of audit, evaluation and research.

The post holder will also be part of the wider Acute Psychology Service which includes psychologists working within a range of clinical specialities. This friendly, innovative team offers a wide variety of professional development opportunities, established teaching and research links with local universities, and collaborative working relationships with public health, the third sector and psychologists from other services locally and nationally.

Although previous experience in a physical health setting is an advantage, enthusiasm for working in clinical health is more critical. Strong team working skills are essential. This is a permanent post. A relocation allowance of up to £8000 is available according to circumstances.

Interviews will be held on 22nd August 2024
