Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated senior nurse to join our dedicated team to help us deliver world class specialised diagnostic and therapy services to patients. The Nuclear Medicine department provides a comprehensive and ever expanding range of radionuclide diagnostic imaging and therapy procedures using state of the art equipment.

You will be involved in carrying out administrations of radiopharmaceuticals and adjunct drugs to patients suffering a wide range of illnesses whilst undergoing nuclear medicine procedures. You will provide specialist nursing care to patients, relatives and carers. You also will provide specialist advice to colleagues regarding patients in our care.

You will provide specialist nursing support to patients undergoing radionuclide therapy; providing information, support and clinical expertise to enable the patient to understand their investigation and treatment in a much specialised, often daunting clinical environment. You will be administering both diagnostic and therapy doses of radioactive isotopes

We offer a desirable working pattern of Monday to Friday with the potential for weekend work, no nights or bank holidays. We welcome candidates that have transferable skills they can bring to our service, to join our small and friendly team. We are aware that this is a rare opportunity within a niche department so further training will be provided, if required, to the successful candidate.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder works in a highly specialised area of health care where consideration of radiation risks and cross infection is paramount. The post holder is a specialist member of the multidisciplinary team providing skilled care and expertise to patients and their families/partners/friends in the Nuclear Medicine setting.

The role involves the administration of radionuclides and being able to identify particular needs of these patients. The post holder will be involved in carrying out cardiac stress testing as part of a multidisciplinary team approach to nuclear cardiology investigations. The post holder will provide specialist nursing support to patients undergoing radionuclide therapy. The patient mix is such that conditions may vary from being unwell to terminally ill. The post holder will provide information, support, and clinical expertise to enable the patient to understand their investigation and treatment in a much specialised, often daunting clinical environment.

The post requires delivery of training to the wider team (HLS, PBLS, Medical Devices etc) and take part in all aspects of the service, carrying out a wide range of duties appropriate to grade and experience.
