Band 7 Principal Clinical Technologist Information
6 months ago
**Job summary**:
Would you like to join a fast-paced, dynamic and energetic team at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust?
The Nuclear Medicine Service is a specialised diagnostic and treatment facility based on four sites: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEHB), Heartlands Hospital (HH), Good Hope Hospital (GH) and Birmingham Children's Hospital (BCH)). The case mix is highly specialised and this is reflected in the range of investigations and treatments that are provided. Some investigations and treatments routinely provided at QEHB would not be provided at an average district general hospital. The Service actively participates in R&D.
They will be involved in the recruitment and selection of technical staff, deputising for members of the Management Team in their absence, authorising investigations and allocating appointments for complex procedures. On a daily basis they will be liaising with other technologists, clinical scientists, the management team, junior and senior medical staff, nursing and clerical staff.
The post-holder will work in a highly specialised area that requires consideration of radiation and cross infection risks and requires the empathy and skill to help patients and their families through difficult and complex procedures.
Annex 21 also available to gain experience to be appointed at Band 7 at a later date.
**Main duties, tasks & skills required**:
The post-holder will be the Nuclear Medicine Governance Lead and be part of a multidisciplinary team that provides routine and complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and services directly to patients. The lead will have responsibility for all aspects of governance including the Quality Management System (QMS), dealing with Datix incidents (including Risk Register) and ensuring CRIS data is inputted correctly and completely. Responsible for initiating and organising audits and working with physicists and radiologists to improve and develop the service.
They will be actively involved in performing a wide range of diagnostic procedures on patients of all ages and suffering a range of illness, including cancer, the dispensing and administration of sterile radioactive materials, acquisition of imaging data, analysing and calculating results and the disposal and management of radioactive waste. Mainly based at the QEHB site, the post holder will have duties at HH, GH, SOH and BCH, providing teaching, advice, assessment, supervision and mentorship to staff and trainees across all sites under direction of the Management Team. As a senior member of staff, they are required to work unsupervised at all times. They are part of the team responsible for the organisation of the daily and future clinical workload of the department, adapting the work plan in response to changes in levels of demand and capacity.
