Job summary

The Newcastle CMHT team are looking to recruit to a Band 6 Clinical Associate in Psychology. The is a full time, permanent position.

The successful candidate will:

work as a semi-autonomous psychological practitioner under the direct supervision of an experienced and HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist.

provide specialist Psychological services to adults who present with complex mental health difficulties and require involvement from a Community Mental Health Team.

work as a member of the Community Mental Health Team based in Staffordshire/Stoke-on-Trent* alongside MDT colleagues, to provide effective evidence-based care in line with National and Local guidelines.

manage a caseload and be responsible for proactive care delivery decisions - within the scope of practice and under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist.

To plan, assess, implement and evaluate programmes of care.

Main duties of the job

To undertake the range of clinical activities including psychological assessments, treatments and other types of clinical intervention with individual service users, carers, families, groups etc; along with other activities such as staff training; research and development activity.

To work semi-autonomously on a day-to-day basis within their scope of practice under supervision of and subject to review at regular intervals by a registered practitioner psychologist in accordance with British Psychological Society (BPS) guidelines.

CAPs adhere to NHS values and legal & ethical responsibilities as supervised psychological practitioners along with professional (BPS) standards of conduct, performance and ethics, including patient consent and confidentiality.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Provide assessment, formulation and intervention recommendations for complex clinical presentations, within their scope of practice.

Use a range of assessment measures and procedures that are compatible with service user presenting problems.

Manage their own caseload (including fulfilling the role of care coordinator/ key worker where appropriate) while undertaking their own clinical programmes of work, within their scope of practice, under supervision.

Assess the predisposing and precipitating factors that give rise to service-user presenting problems.

Use assessment measures including established psychometric measures, systematic observation and measurement of emotional state, cognitions and behaviour in a variety of settings, including self-motivating strategies for clients.

Undertake assessments on a one-to-one basis with service users, their carers and in group settings.

Based on information collated during assessment, provide a formulation for presenting problems that describes their aetiology, maintenance and appropriate methods of intervention.

Qualifications

Essential

Honours Degree in Psychology - Single or Joint honours (with substantial relevant experience in research or clinical activities if the award received is 2:2 or less)

Experience

Experience of working in the Health sector, voluntary sector or undertaking local engagement work

Knowledge

Essential

Ability to facilitate effective interaction when there are barriers to understanding and circumstances of hostility, manipulation, conflict and antagonism.
