The Apprenticeship programme is undertaken in partnership with Keele University, which will lead to the qualification of MSc Clinical Associate in Psychology. As an apprentice, you will be employed fulltime by NSCHT and your time will be split between work-based practice and learning.

The clinical team being recruited to is the Community Mental Health Rehabilitation Team. The Rehabilitation pathway includes a 10 bedded Community Inpatient Unit, an 8 bedded supported accommodation and a Community Rehab Team to support people in their own homes. The Multi-Disciplinary Team consists of medical, nursing, Occupational Therapists, Support Time Recovery Workers, Peer Support Workers and a Consultant Clinical Psychologist. The post will offer the clinician the opportunity to work with clients with a range of clinical backgrounds including trauma, psychosis and forensic histories. They will be supported to work closely with multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure psychological thinking is embedded into the assessment, formulation and care of each client.

To undertake the 18 month CAP apprenticeship, encompassing work based practice and learning with academic teaching and study

To work as a semi-autonomous psychological practitioner under the direct supervision of an experienced and HCPC registered Clinica Psychologist

To provide effective evidence-based care in line with National and Local guidelines

To manage a caseload and be responsible for proactive care delivery decisions - within the scope of practice and under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist

With training, to plan, assess, implement and evaluate programmes of care.

Under supervision and in the context of work-based training, CAP apprentices also:
Provide assessment, formulation and intervention recommendations for complex clinical presentations, within their scope of practice.

Use a range of assessment measures and procedures that are compatible with service user presenting problems.

Manage their own caseload (including fulfilling the role of care coordinator where appropriate) while undertaking their own clinical programmes of work, within their scope of practice, under supervision.

Assess the predisposing and precipitating factors that give rise to service-user presenting problems.

Use assessment measures including established psychometric measures, systematic observation and measurement of emotional state, cognitions and behaviour in a variety of settings, including self-motivating strategies for clients.

Undertake assessments on a one-to-one basis with service users, their carer’s and in group settings.

Based on information collated during assessment, provide a formulation for presenting problems that describes their aetiology, maintenance and appropriate methods of intervention.

Provide a range of individual and group interventions that are evidence-based and are clearly conceptualised within the formulation network.

Provide evaluation of therapeutic interventions in relation to change over time that might involve a number of dimensions such as behaviour change, cognitive and emotional change.

Evaluate their own clinical practice whilst working with individuals or groups and participate in regular supervision with the designated Clinical Psychologist.

To contribute to service development via innovative clinical practice and participation in the multi-disciplinary environment (bringing new ideas forward)

Initiate and carry out research, audit and service evaluation with the agreement of the designated Clinical Psychologist / line manager.

Keep management informed about the needs of the service and relevant psychological matters concerning the mental health of service users.

Maintain and contribute to CPD in the Service and team.

Balancing the welfare rights of the individual against the duty of care to the wider community where the behaviour of a patient is likely to pose a significant risk to themselves and others.
