Job summary

An opportunity has arisen to work within the Gynaecology department as a Medical Speciality Co-ordinator , providing Secretarial, admin and clerical support to the Consultants and Urogynae team.

We are looking for an experienced Co-ordinator who has worked in a similar role. You will need a good understanding of secretarial and admin processes within the NHS or a similar setting.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have dual responsibility for co-ordinating the administration of clinical and departmental tasks for the consultants and the divisional specialities, as well as co-ordinating and maintaining patient pathways in line with national targets, local policies and procedures.

They will provide a comprehensive and efficient administrative service to the department together with helping to support other specialties within the division as required.

The post holder will develop a good knowledge of the 18-week pathway and local Trust Access Policy and working closely with staff, patients and other health professionals, they will ensure quality of service and enhanced patient experience.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Medical co-ordinator responsibilities Be the first point of contact for escalation of administration issues. Produce general correspondence clinic letters, result letters, invoices, medical statements, complaints statements and miscellaneous reports as required. Maintain an organised file management system. Liaise with Medical Records, the Appointments Office and Outpatient Department to ensure the smooth running of clinics for the consultant. Ensure any referrals that are received in to the department are sent to the Appointment Office and dealt with efficiently. Ensure that the Consultant is made aware of ward referrals from clinicians and other specialities. Arrange tests for patients and ensure patients are aware of appointments, send out the necessary forms to patients for testing. Provide clinical documents and diagnostic results to clinicians. Ensure patients prescriptions are dealt with appropriately upon request. Organise and coordinate registrar clinics.

Responsible for updating medical records and the Patient Administration System (PAS) with patients details.

Educated to NVQ Level 3 or 4 or equivalent experience. GCSE or equivalent standard of education in English and Maths
