**JOB TITLE**: HEE KSS BSMS Leadership and Education Fellow 2024 BAND: Trust Grade ST4-ST7 Trainee Doctor (As per experience and previous service)12-month fixed term Out of Programme Experience (OOPE) 07/08/2024 to 05/08/2025 CARE GROUP: Medical Directorate DEPARTMENT: Medical Education HOURS OF WORK: 2 days (16 hours per week) KMPT 3 days (24 hours per week) BSMS KEY RESULT AREAS: Lead and contribute to agreed project(s) Leadership is a key part of doctors professional work regardless of speciality and setting. It is already a requirement of all doctors as laid out in the General Medical Councils (GMC) publications Good Medical Practice, Tomorrows Doctors and also Management for Doctors. While the primary focus for doctors is on their professional practice, all doctors work in systems and within organisations. It is a vitally important fact that doctors have a direct and far-reaching impact on patient experience and outcomes.
Doctors have a legal duty broader than any other health professional and therefore have an intrinsic leadership role within healthcare services. They have a responsibility to contribute to the effective running of the organisation in which they work and to its future direction. The development of leadership competence needs to be an integral part of a doctors training and learning. The Leadership fellow will: Support with projects specifically relating to Leadership in Medical Education, Mental Health and LD, in turn trying to build on some of the Leadership headings based on the NHS Leadership and Medical Leadership Competency Frameworks below during their fellowship.
Build awareness of and actively participate in wider system related to project and development goals To develop an understanding of and engagement with relevant decision-making and other processes related to the fellowship project, leadership, education, and change in the organisation and local system in order to be able to progress project work, increase its impact and enhance skills in working across traditional boundaries. To attend BSMS, regional and national educational and other relevant meetings and liaise with the BSMS Programme Team and the local office of NHS England Workforce, Training and Education Directorate as required. Development and dissemination of learning To complete the Post Graduate academic studies pathway as agreed with BSMS. To participate in learning events and other educational activities related to the programme.
