Speech, Language, and Communication Support Assistant Needed in Secondary School

Position: Speech, Language, and Communication Support Assistant
Location: Preston, Lancashire
Salary: Competitive, based on experience
Contract Type: Full-Time, Term-Time Only
Start Date: ASAP

Do you have a passion for supporting students with speech, language, and communication needs?

We are looking for a dedicated and skilled Speech, Language, and Communication Support Assistant to join our thriving secondary school. This is an excellent opportunity to work with young people and help them achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide targeted support to students with speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN).
  • Work closely with the SENCo and speech and language therapists to implement individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Assist in the development and delivery of communication programs.
  • Support classroom teachers in differentiating instruction to meet the needs of students with SLCN.
  • Monitor and record student progress and provide regular feedback to teachers and parents.
  • Facilitate small group and one-to-one interventions.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SLCN.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting student development.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, qualifications in speech and language support) are desirable.
  • Understanding of SEN policies and practices is advantageous.
