Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom Newcastle University Full time

The Role

A Clinical Research Associate position is available based at the Wolfson Childhood Cancer Research Centre and funded by Children’s Cancer North. The position is suitable for a highly motivated and ambitious individual who wishes to develop a clinical academic career in paediatric neurosurgical oncology.

This position will develop novel experimental models of the childhood brain tumour, medulloblastoma, using neurosurgical and laboratory skills. Development of these models – termed fully humanised Organotypic Slice Cultures (OSC) – will provide essential training and pilot data, and the foundation, for a future PhD application.

Working with Dr Rebecca Hill, Dr Melanie Beckett, Dr Louisa Taylor and Prof Steve Clifford, you will be primarily responsible for setting up this proof-of-concept study including; i) model establishment whereby murine cerebellar OSC will act as a scaffold for medulloblastoma tumour-spheroids, ii) characterising and benchmarking novel OSC models against established 2D, 3D, in vivo, and human medulloblastoma datasets, and iii) assessment of therapeutics on OSC models.

You will be integrated into the Paediatric Brain Tumour Research Group (PBTG) at Newcastle University Centre for Cancer and will contribute to other ongoing research studies focused on improving outcomes for children with high-risk medulloblastoma.

This post is full time, fixed term for a period of 12 months.

For informal enquiries contact: Dr Rebecca Hill () or Professor Steve Clifford ()
