Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Safeguarding team as a Named Nurse / Professional for MCA and DOLS. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and experienced practitioner that is capable of positively influencing practice and competent to lead on the MCA/DOLS agenda for the Trust, with the support from the Deputy / Head of Safeguarding and wider safeguarding team role will require an in-depth knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act, Best Interest decision making and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and the ability to support positive outcomes for patients accessing Trust services, supporting colleagues to undertake all necessary duties where a patient lacks ideal candidate will be a visible leader, with the credible skills and knowledge required to undertake this role, having the skills to drive forward this agenda and embed throughout Trust areas.

Main duties of the job

Act as the clinical expert in the field of Mental Capacity and Best Interests. The role will include advising the Trust on its statutory duties for Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguarding 2009 and working alongside statutory duties for safeguarding adults and children recognising the close alignment of the patient information is collated, monitored and fully accurate, maintaining complete and contemporaneous records in line with NMC/SWE/ relevant AHP wider professional bodies and Trust as a professional role model to all colleagues, patients, carers and the public at all times.Provide practical advice and support to embed the capacity agenda across operational and corporate services and forge strong links with the partners across health and social careIncrease the Trust knowledge and understanding of the specific needs and services for patient who lack capacity to ensure the delivery of a high standard of patient care.

Job responsibilities

Take Lead responsibility for the Trust representation at MCA/DoLS Subgroups externallyCoordinate Education development and delivery of evidence based Mental Capacity, best interest decision making and DoLS training at all levels for Trust staff.Monitor and report the MCA/DoLS activity within the Trust and ensure that all reporting requirements both internally and externally are met.Regularly review the data quality, validation and completeness of reports with relevant stakeholders, and ensure that requests for information are processed and responded to in line with Trust policy.Maintain professional responsibilities in accordance with the relevant professional code of practice, maintaining a professional portfolio with evidence of continuous professional development as required.
