Job overview

The post holder, working closely with Senior BMS in Specimen Reception, Lead BMS and Head BMS will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of patient care within the blood sciences Department. The post-holder will be expected to identify and implement initiatives to improve services, with delegated responsibility from the Lead and Head BMS. Post holder will be expected to lead designated projects to ensure key performance targets (financial, operational and clinical) are met.

The post holder will manage the Medical Laboratory assistant and Pathology Reception staff enabling patients to receive treatment in accordance with the NHS Constitution and the Health and Social Care Bill 2011.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the effective running of Pathology Reception in liaison with the Lead BMS and Senior BMS in Specimen Reception .

Supervise and direct the work of Specimen Reception Medical Laboratory assistants. Receive specimens, enter patient and test details in to the Pathology computer system, prepare specimens for Blood Sciences and for sending to other laboratories both internally within the department and externally.

Lead, manage and motivate MLA staff within the blood sciences reception, ensuring that appropriate management structures, policies and practices are in place to achieve high levels of performance.

Monitoring, reporting and management of sickness absence

Co-ordinate annual leave and work rotas according to protocols across directorates.
