Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board for a Band 5, Occupational Health Screening Nurse to join the multidisciplinary team.

We are seeking an RGN qualified individual interested in developing their skills and gaining experience within the occupational health speciality.

You will have excellent communication skills, be IT literate with a flexible, proactive approach to service delivery and be able to work clinically in an autonomous manner.

The main purpose of the role would be to administer work related vaccines and flu vaccines,provide advice and where appropriate onward referral for staff who have sustained a needle stick/contamination incident as well as conducting skin assessments with onward referral to specialists where appropriate.

You must have proven clinical skills alongside strong interpersonal and organisational skills.

Working patterns are mainly Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am and 4pm.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The Occupational Health service works to ' promote good health, safety and welfare in work collaboratively facilitating the right support, at the right time in the right way"The main purpose of the role would be to:o Administer safely work related vaccines and flu vaccines as per writteninstructions/Patient Group Directives (PGDs).o Provide advice and where appropriate onward referral for staff who have sustained a needle stick/contamination incident. Advise the employee of follow-up as necessary and ensure compliance with the CTUMHB Needlestick policy.

The post holder is guided by clearly defined protocols and legislation and contacts more senior colleagues for complex post holder is required to be accountable for their own actions, to use own initiative and act independently with workload is managed rather than supervised and act independently whilst undertaking clinical may be responsible for supervising OH nurse students.

Job responsibilities

Identifies, plans and administers vaccination and immunisation schedules, relevant to anemployees occupation, as per local guidelines and own workload, immunisation and health promotion programmes under the supervision ofthe more senior qualified Occupational Health autonomously within established legislation and procedures Welsh Government,Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), Health and Safety Legislation and the ProfessionalCode of Conduct of the Nursing and Midwifery to the occupational physician and senior occupational health nurses for advice on medicalissues as and when accident/incident monitoring-responsible for following up and offering treatment/support tostaff who have reported accidents/incidents needle stick injuries, violence and aggression,slips, trips and additional training to undertake skin assessments and where appropriate onward referral tospecialists following OH standard operating procedures on skin the Integrated guidance on health care workers with blood borne viruses DHSC guidance isimplemented, with particular emphasis on those who undertake exposure prone procedures, withguidance from the other OH nurses and/or physician.

The post holder plays a role in supervising the maintenance and security of occupational healthrecords both written and computerised (Cohort) and being fully aware of confidentiality andconsent requirements as stated in recognised legislation. Maintenance of records and adherenceto confidentiality and consent requirements will be in line with professional standards, GeneralData Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Data Protection legislation, the ICO employment practicescode and other legislation as his/her expertise, as per Government legislation, UHB policy and agreed Occupational Healthprocedures with regard to; implementing health and safety at work, by giving specific adviceand taking appropriate action for the significant work-health related incidents needle stickinjuries and skin problems.Undertaking contact tracing for staff who have been exposed to infectious diseases, followingguidance from a senior OH with health surveillance programmes, as required by government legislation and UHBpolicy.Participate in the induction training of new employees.Undertake workplace visits, for the purpose of risk assessments, health surveillance and regularaudit.Support current health initiatives regarding health promotion and awareness.Support and advise employees on health-work-related issues, having regard for their physical,psychological and social well being, as may be that the post holder and team members act at all times to provide a personalised servicein accordance with the NMC Code of Professional ConductWorks closely with other member of the multidisciplinary team attending and contributing to theregular multidisciplinary team meetings.Vaccinations-responsible for carrying out work related vaccinations in accordance withdepartmental policy. The nurse will take full responsibility for prescribing and giving vaccinations,adhering to CTMUHB protocols and ensuring they can manage an acute incident, Ensuring vaccine cold chain is maintainedAdvice on Occupational Hazards-the nurse will be expected to give advice on particularoccupational hazards to individual, staff members and managers.Management of Blood/Body Fluid Incidents-giving advice to employees who have experienced acontamination with blood and/or body fluids about the risks of contracting a blood borne nurse ensures that the incident is managed appropriately in accordance with current CTMUHBpoliciesHealth Promotion-promoting health within the UHB. Identify appropriate health promotionactivities to address underlying causes of ill health. Raise awareness of work related and lifestyleshealth issues and to facilitate change, where this is appropriate. Advise all UHB staff of healthpromotion interventions in relation to health surveillance and vaccination to reduce the risk ofinfections in the workplace.
