The post holder will provide expert advice and have direct input in to all aspects of decontamination across Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board. The post holder will support the Deputy Lead IPC Nurse to provide leadership for the development, implementation and review of decontamination practices.

Provide expert advice in relation to decontamination matters across Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) without supervision but under the management of the Deputy Lead Infection Prevention Control Nurse.

Support the Deputy Lead Infection Prevention and Control Nurse (IPCN) to provide leadership and support for the development, implementation and review of decontamination practices, ensuring there are robust systems and processes in place across the Organisation to improve patient safety and deliver required outcomes.

Provide direct input into all aspects of decontamination across Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board.

With support from the Deputy Lead IPCN, lead on operational issues relating to decontamination of reusable medical devices/equipment.

With support from the Deputy Lead IPCN, lead on the monitoring, maintenance and upgrade of the patient/client environment, working with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to discharge this requirement, including Authorised Persons (decontamination), Heads of Nursing, Estates colleagues, facilities staff and the AE(D).

Develop and maintain close working relationships with the Lead IPC Nurse, Lead IPC Doctor, critical service users and other staff to ensure the delivery of excellent standards of decontamination throughout the organisation.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Provide effective visible leadership across Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, providing specialist advice to clinical and non clinical areas in relation to all decontamination issues, ensuring a fully integrated approach is in place within the organisation, including risk management, surveillance and audit.

Develop/ update audit tools and support the clinical departments to develop action plans for any non-conformances identified

Work with others to minimise the risk of healthcare associated infections by arranging and supporting the development and delivery of training and education programmes to clinical staff groups.

Work with the Deputy Lead IPC Nurse to provide assurance to the Lead IPC Nurse/ IPC Doctor to ensure appropriate processes are in place to promote best practice and provide assurance to the Board around the management of decontamination practices/processes.

Participate in regional and national events for decontamination.

Work with Deputy Lead IPC Nurse to undertake investigations of clinical incidents and/or failure of processes relating to decontamination following the Organisations policies and national guidance documents (e.g. WHTMs/ HTMs/ HBNs) and acting upon findings/ recommendations.
