Job Summary
At We Change Lives, we are looking for an exceptional Head of Complex Care to lead our clinical and quality standards across our Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) services. In this pivotal role, you will ensure that the highest standards of care are delivered to individuals with complex care needs. Working closely with our central management team, you will oversee the development of clinical roles and manage the delivery of services that improve the health and wellbeing of those we support.
As the Head of Complex Care, you will be responsible for providing skilled leadership, engaging with stakeholders and health professionals to promote best practice in care. You will monitor service quality, ensure compliance with legal frameworks, and create a culture of continuous improvement throughout our organisation.
This role requires regular travel across the North West and Midlands, where you will provide onsite leadership and support to our services. You will collaborate with service managers to ensure that all aspects of care align with our core values, making a meaningful difference in the lives of the people we support.
To take a lead role in managing the clinical standards across a growing organisation to ensure industry leading standards, working in partnership with other Central Managers to ensure the delivery of high standards of quality in the support we provide.
To be accountable for the development of clinical roles and the delivery of complex care across the organisation through skilled leadership, stakeholder relationships and health professional engagement to improve the health and wellbeing of the people we support, Within this responsibility seek and obtain necessary nursing skills to lead a team in best practice of nursing standards.
To deliver and sustain high standards of service quality, achieving a reputation for excellence through the practice of our 'WCL' values.
In order to deliver the role, travel to designated services to deliver onsite leadership and monitoring.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership
- To provide leadership and development to Service Managers and Clinical Leads across WCL's Complex Services.
- To support the Service Managers to lead colleagues in developing the service, increase performance and improving quality standards through dissemination of organisational strategic outcomes.
- In partnership with other central roles, use data analysis to assess themes, trends and root causes to improve performance of delivery.
- To ensure all reporting requirements are adhered to, these include, but not an exhaustive list; Safeguarding, CQC, RIDDOR, Insurance and DBS.
- To utilise, promote and ensure compliance with WCL's Policies and Procedures.
- To take responsibility for the review of clinical policies and procedures such as Medication and Tracheostomy care to ensure high standards of care.
- Promote the health and wellbeing of the people we support through awareness and improvement initiatives.
- To ensure all services work within the legal frameworks in relation to mental capacity.
- To monitor service performance and support the development and completion of improvement action plans.
- To take responsibility for own learning in relation to changes to regulatory requirements and disseminate information to services.
- Conduct team meetings to evaluate performance, provide knowledge and training and team cohesion.
- Represent the organisation at external meetings, conferences and events as required.
- In the absence of a Service Manager (for your designated cohort), fulfil the role and responsibilities.
Colleagues
- To Support the Deputy CEO/Head of Care in selection, recruitment, induction, retention and development of all clinical and complex management roles in accordance with legislation and company guidelines.
- To support the organisation to ensure appropriate numbers and skills mix of colleagues to meet the requirements of each service.
- Support services providing clinical and support with additional mentorship, supervision and competency assessments.
- Support the induction of clinical roles and newly qualified nurses in their role.
- Ensure there is effective communication and dissemination of information on a frequent and regular basis using various methods to all colleagues.
- To support clinical roles to manage delegation of clinical duties.
Business (Quality Assurance)
- Support the organisation to deliver effective financial performance in accordance with WCL policy.
- Support services to maintain strong occupancy levels through strong commissioner relationships.
- Support services to perform against established hours and contractual allocations.
- Ensure the management of clinical resources and maintenance of clinical equipment is effective.
- Support the Services to implement and maintain effective internal audit and review systems.
- Support the Services to ensure that they comply with contract agreements and requirements.
- Support the Services to optimise all opportunities to develop and maintain relevant to their local need.
- Support the Services to track performance as set against key performance indicators (KPI's) and budgets.
- Support the Services to review monthly action plans to ensure SMART objectives are set and delivered in Quality, Care, People and Finance measures.
- Contribute to strategic project work such as operation excellence initiatives and new business integration.
- Ensure all services meet regulatory and contractual requirements.
- Promote succession planning of existing and potential employees.
- Produce reports and business appraisals to the Quality Committee and the Board of Trustees as and when required.
- Provide third tier, out of hours, on call support to all services in line with planned rota.
- Provide clinical guidance to the board of trustees.
- Support the services to maintain proactive management and monitoring arrangements to ensure on-going compliance and adherence to service contracts.

- Ensure that high standards of care delivery are maintained at all times and that clinical and care needs of the people we support are appropriately met.

- Work with all stakeholders to continually improve relationships and service provision.
- Maintain excellent relationships with relatives, residents, purchasers, and external agencies to build and maintain a positive reputation.
- Understand and implement Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults policies and procedures.
- Ensure that services using restraint do so in line with the 'Restraint Reduction Network standards, 2019' and make arrangements for PBS compliance assessments.
- Develop health promotion activities across various services.

Safeguarding
To complete training on Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults and the Mental Capacity Act and be able to understand and implement SVA and MCA policies and procedures taking responsibility for reporting safeguarding concerns.
