Applicants must be qualified in core profession as per BABCP criteria (BABCP | British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies > Accreditation > Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist Accreditation > Core Professions > Core Professions list and criteria) and have a further psychological therapy qualification at Masters level or above, as well as additional training in specialised area of psychological practise.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to develop, co-ordinate and ensure the systematic provision of a psychology service to CYP Gender Service and personally provide highly specialist clinical input, and contribute to enabling other staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.

 

Working for our organisation

Following the recommendations of The Cass Review Interim Report, two new nationally networked services led by specialist children’s tertiary care providers are being established. The Southern Hub, based in London, is delivered by a partnership of Evelina London Children’s Hospital (part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust), Great Ormond Street Hospital and the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

The Northern Hub is delivered by a partnership of Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust). This role is based in the Southern Hub.

Academic/Professional qualification/TrainingEssential criteria

  • Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the relevant regulatory body Certificate in supervision skills
  • Additional training in a specialised area of psychological ( CBT, DBT, etc) practice through formal post-qualification training (PG Diploma or equivalent), OR a combination of specialist short courses, or an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice–based learning in a specialist area of clinical practice, assessed by an experienced clinical supervisor to be of equal level to a Postgraduate Diploma.

Experience/KnowledgeEssential criteria
  • Evidence of having worked as a clinical specialist under supervision in an area of practice relevant to CYP with gender diversity
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients with a range of psychological needs of a complex nature in an area of specialism relevant to the needs of CYP with Gender Diversity
  • Experience of supervising prequalified and trainee therapeutic practitioners having completed the relevant training.
  • Experience of providing teaching and training to psychologists or other professional groups.
  • Post-qualification experience that supports working with, and addressing issues of, diversity within local communities.
  • Experience of carrying out postgraduate research, audit or service evaluation projects.
  • Experience of proposing and implementing service development projects within own service area.
  • Record of publications in either peer reviewed, academic or professional journals/books
  • Highly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies for in a client group relevant to CYP with gender diversity ( CBT, DBT, etc)
  • Advanced theoretical knowledge of psychopathology and the evidence base for the relevant treatment relevant to CYP with gender diversity.
  • Advanced knowledge of psychological assessment and clinical psychometrics including screening for common neurodevelopmental disorders
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health issues, child and adult protection, and equalities
  • Doctoral level knowledge of psychological research methodology and complex statistical analysis.
  • Knowledge of factors affecting acceptability and accessibility of mental health care.
Skills/AbilitiesEssential criteria
  • To deliver psychological therapy across cultural and other differences.
  • To select and administer specialist psychological assessments, interpreting and integrating complex data that require analysis, interpretation and comparison, drawn from several sources, on which expert opinion may differ.
  • To communicate skilfully and sensitively complex and sensitive information with clients, carers and colleagues overcoming barriers to communication including sensory, and emotional difficulties, cultural differences and hostility to or rejection of information.
  • To plan and schedule assessment and interventions for individual clients and groups and carers, and to organise meetings such as CPAs and case reviews, and joint activities with staff of partner agencies.

  • Well-developed IT skills including entry and analysis of research data.
