Job summary

Applications are invited for the role of Head of Profession for the Department of Radiology at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust [LTHT]. We are seeking an enthusiastic, organised and highly motivated diagnostic Radiographer with excellent communication, management & leadership skills to provide the professional leadership for the over 350 radiographers, sonographers and clinical support staff within the CSU.

They will be a compassionate leader responsible for delivering an efficient, safe, effective & high-quality radiographic imaging service.

The HoP will line manage the modality lead radiographers, quality lead radiographer & radiation safety protection team & is responsible for delivering the quality & safety agenda for the CSU in collaboration with the Lead Clinician for Quality & Patient Experience. They will be line managed by the Clinical Director.

As a member of the triumvirate leadership team the HoP will be involved with strategic decisions about the CSU with delegated responsibility from the Clinical Director for some of these decisions & their operationalisation.

Focus Group with the wider CSU will take place on 02/10/2024. You will need to prepare a presentation. The topic of your presentation will be " Why I will make a good Radiology HoP "

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be responsible for the professional leadership and management of the radiographers, sonographers, clinical technologists, assistant radiographic practitioners and radiographic assistants across the Radiology and Medical Illustration clinical support unit (CSU) .

The post holder is the named and identified lead and point of contact for advice and expertise. Responsible for the care and professional practice delivered with a radiographic workforce of over 370 whole time equivalent registered and 70 un-registered staff working across 6 hospital sites.

The Radiology Clinical Service Unit (CSU) delivers a diagnostic & treatment imaging service for over 600,000 patients a year within a budget of just over £71m. With an established national reputation for clinical innovation & expertise along with a significant teaching & research profile the CSU contains one of three national radiology training academies with associated educational facilities & resources for the Leeds Bradford Radiology training scheme.

Radiology employs approximately 850 staff & provides a full range of imaging modalities across 6 sites in Leeds.

Job responsibilities

The Head of Profession is responsible for the professional leadership and management of the radiographers, sonographers, clinical technologists, assistant radiographic practitioners and radiographic assistants across the Radiology and Medical Illustration clinical support unit (CSU). The post holder will be a state registered radiographer with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and is managerially accountable to the Clinical Director, professionally accountable to the Chief Nurse.

The post holder is the named and identified lead for all issues relating to radiography practice within the CSU and will be identified as the senior radiographer within the CSU triumvirate and point of contact for advice and expertise. They are responsible for the care and professional practice delivered with a radiographic workforce of over 370 whole time equivalent registered and 70 un-registered staff working across 6 hospital sites. The post holder will be a visible, accessible and authoritative presence, establishing innovative and professional leadership across the Radiology workforce and inspire, motivate and empower these staff groups.

They will establish and foster an effective working relationship with the CSU Clinical Director and General Manager to lead improvement in imaging, service delivery and the achievement of organisational priorities within the CSU. They will ensure all imaging services are delivered to agreed quality standards, providing patient-focused services and promoting clinical excellence.

BSc in diagnostic Radiography or equivalent / Current State Registration (HCPC) Specialised clinical training to Masters level or evidence of practical application of expertise at this level Post-graduate qualification in a leadership/management programme/study or evidence of practical application of expertise at this level Significant experience of middle/senior management level in a complex organisation Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
