How you'll make a difference

The User-centred Design team focuses on helping residents access council services and information via our website and other online platforms.

As our user researcher you will make a difference by being responsible for devising and conducting an ongoing programme of user experience and research activities to support the council’s digital transformation, making it more customer-centric.

What you will be doing?

Day to day, you will use your skills to design, plan and conduct research into what people need from our website and online services. You will take a lead role in promoting the value of user research and regularly lead sessions across the organisation to improve understanding of this area. It will be your responsibility to ensure that users with a range of needs are engaged in user research and testing. You will be required to choose appropriate research methodologies. When required, you will present research findings, insights and recommendations back to stakeholders. Working with our team of content designers, you will plan content to meet agreed user stories and acceptance criteria.

What we need from you

We require you to have relevant degree level qualification or equivalent professional experience.

It is key that you have worked in a collaborative way with content designers, business analysts, and IT development
teams.

You must be able to demonstrate your experience of using web analytics and data insights to support your work. You will have experience and knowledge of applying qualitative and quantitative user research methods.

Given the nature of the role, you should understand the diversity of users of government services and designing appropriate research activities to capture their needs.

You will have knowledge of the Government Digital Service (GDS) standards.
