Children's Cancer Marketing

Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom Newcastle University Full time

The Role

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Marketing and Communications Manager. This new role within the charity staff team will lead the development, implementation, co-ordination and evaluation of marketing strategies for the charity.

Children’s Cancer North launched in May 2021, born from the merger of two well established regional charities: North of England Children’s Cancer Research and the Children’s Cancer Fund. Children’s Cancer North’s aim is to make life better for children with cancer. We do this in three ways; through providing direct support to children and families, investing in revolutionary research, and raising awareness of our cause.

It is an independently registered charity working in partnership with Newcastle University, funding research carried out within the Centre for Cancer, a Newcastle University Centre of research excellence.

In this role, you’ll be based at our Newcastle Upon Tyne campus that has fantastic transport links and state of the art facilities. You’ll report to Abigail Hewison, Head of Charity, who has been with the charity for over 8 years. We offer a hybrid and flexible working model.

You’ll be joining a small team which will consist of 10 employees by the end of 2024. You’ll line manage one member of the team, our Digital Fundraising Officer, and will also need to oversee the management of media contacts, external photographer(s) and videographer(s), and charity volunteers during events.

To apply for this position, we will need your CV and ideally a personal statement outlining how you are suitable for the role. Please focus your personal statement on the below points using examples where possible:

• Creation, implementation and monitoring of a successful annual marketing and communications strategy to raise brand awareness through events, campaigns and other charity projects and aid the successful delivery of the fundraising plan, supporting the charity team to meet their income targets.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – the ability to influence and manage/delegate upwards as well as downwards will be key.
• Experience of collaborating with senior stakeholders to manage and develop key marketing campaigns to ensure attendance and fundraising figures hit expected levels.
• Experience of leading on the planning, sourcing, and coordination of editorial and visual content for both digital and print media including knowledge of best practice.
• Evidence of leading and responsibility of a small marketing team.
• Knowledge of web design, specifically WordPress.
• Experience of managing multi-partner projects or events – must be able to juggle projects in a professional way.
• A highly flexible and co-operative working style.

This is a full time post for the duration of 2 years initially.
