Gordon Murray Advanced Engineering is seeking an innovative and strategic Director of Engineering to lead the attribute and development teams across all vehicle programmes. The ideal candidate will have proven experience overseeing vehicle benchmarking, target setting, simulation and test and development. As Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for leading cross-functional teams, aligning project objectives, and ensuring seamless integration across various engineering disciplines.
Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership:Develop and execute strategic plans for engineering departments to achieve company goals.Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement across engineering teams.Establish and maintain engineering standards and best practices.Departmental Management:Lead and manage teams such as Vehicle Development, Vehicle Attributes and Chief Engineers.Technical Oversight:Ensure all engineering projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.Drive the development and implementation of new technologies, tools, and processes.Oversee technical reviews, product validation, and verification processes.Cross-Functional Collaboration:Collaborate with the various design and engineering teams to define engineering requirements.Work closely with manufacturing and operations teams to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability.Team Development:Mentor, coach, and develop engineering managers and team members.Recruit and retain top engineering talent.Budget Management:Develop and manage engineering budgets, including departmental and project-specific budgets.Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to cost and efficiency.Compliance and Standards:Ensure all engineering activities comply with regulatory standards and industry best practices.Implement and enforce health, safety, and environmental standards within the engineering departments. 
Skills, Knowledge and ExpertiseQualifications and Experience:Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field; Master's preferred.Extensive vehicle engineering experience, with proven delivery of multiple vehicle programmes.Strong knowledge of automotive engineering disciplines, including CAE, R&D, Vehicle Testing and programme delivery.Proven experience in managing multidisciplinary engineering teams and projects.Excellent strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Preferred Skills:Previous experience in vehicle design and development.Familiarity with automotive standards, regulations, and compliance requirements.Experience with advanced engineering tools, software, and methodologies.
