Severn Trent are currently recruiting for an Environmental Specialist within our Water Treatment department. The role will be to ensure compliance with the environmental discharge requirements on our non infra water sites. This is a new and exciting role to help to shape and deliver our environmental compliance strategy in clean water.

The role will entail working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. This team will coordinate and manage the creation and delivery of local operating procedures and associated site plans. The role will also include coordinating and driving forward the compliance workstreams to embed new practices into non infra water.

The role will involve additional focus on our improvement activities, working with other teams to help deliver improved compliance. Site end to end reviews will need to be carried out highlighting any shortfalls with our discharge permits and site control philosophies.

Some of your additional responsibilities will include…

Supporting in delivering the environmental compliance ODI and EPA To proactively recognise non-compliance where a site is not performing correctly and failing its discharge limits from a numeric and non-numeric perspective. Identify and complete mitigating actions to help resolve process or site discharge issues, including pollution incidents. Liaise with the Permits teams and apply for adjustments to existing Discharge permits and support with new applications. Completing root cause analysis ensuring that the right people/skills are involved and delivered in a timely manner as per the complying with the Regulations and discharges standard. Carrying out proactive discharge site audits including the relevant site permits. Attend any associated COPS (Community of practice) to help deliver a standard best practice around discharge regulations compliance. Identify, develop, set standards and deliver training to include onsite testing, discharge process knowledge to the local teams and wider business. Update and create any SOPS (Systems of Work) or local operating procedures to reflect the site conditions and control regime.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

The ideal candidate will have excellent technical or process knowledge within Water Treatment or Waste Water Treatment as well as an understanding of environmental compliance and regulations.

You should have excellent communication and influencing skills alongside experience of collaborating with and working with stakeholders effectively at all levels within the organisation.

We’d like to see experience of prioritising, planning and delivering outputs to timescales and the ability to clearly communicate investigational outcomes to the relevant stakeholders.

Experience in leading process investigations Understanding of the capital investment process Experience of using Safer Better Faster tools and techniques Awareness of regulatory reporting and other environmental compliance requirements
