Job summary

This is a developmental role for a Speech and Language Therapist to work with our dynamic school to create a new Speech and Language apprenticeship course to begin in academic year 2025/2026.

This role will be supported by a curriculum coach (HCPC registered) and placement lecturer. Through this supported approach the apprenticeship curriculum will be developed and taken through a successful accreditation, working closely with and developing relationships with employer partners. There will then be the opportunity to become the Programme Leader on successful accreditation and recruitment for the course.

You will share your expert professional knowledge to a broader audience thus ensuring a curriculum which is contemporary and prepares all learners to engage in any aspect of Speech and Language Therapy.

Local employers are in support of this apprenticeship development, therefore we would consider a secondment opportunity. Please liaise with your professional lead to confirm before applying.

Main duties of the job

You will be motivated, proactive and engage with collaborative working both as a team and with wider partners. We aim to ensure that we equip our graduates with the skills necessary to succeed in the workplace upon graduation and throughout their professional careers. As such, we not only focus on the acquisition of caring science knowledge, but also on vital transferable skills, such as compassionate leadership and robust digital skills.

Evidence of any of the following will be an advantage: Masters level education, Fellowship of Higher Education Academy, Publications in peer-reviewed journals, consultancy delivery and development, research income generation, or the desire and potential to develop in these areas.

Successful applicants will have:

Degree and/or Postgraduate qualification in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent Speech and Language Therapy qualification) Current HCPC registration with no restrictions Recent Clinical practice experience in the UK Experience of practice education or supporting/supervising/teaching students in Higher Education Awareness and understanding of the apprenticeship agenda

Principal Accountabilities:

As a lecturer or (Senior Lecturer) in this specific role, the focus will be on developing the curriculum, assessment strategies, teaching resources, placement and developing partnerships and working with other team members.

You will work with the curriculum coach in taking the responsibility for the development of Speech and Language therapy education in the school. You will demonstrate a focus on enhancing the student experience of programmes; providing students with a high-quality, research informed educational experience leading to an understanding of healthcare practice and the achievement of both academic and professional qualifications. You will lead developments in response to the professional and interprofessional agendas. You will work with the placement lecturer to support collaborations with clinical colleagues to develop and prepare appropriate clinical placements including educational audit and clinical liaison. The role may also involve a contribution to the wider Institute of Applied Sciences, including income generation activities, student recruitment and, where appropriate, support other departments within the University.

Learning and Teaching:

Work with the curriculum coach to design an innovative Speech and Language Therapy course; Work with the curriculum coach to design the teaching materials and delivery across a range of modules within the School of Nursing and Allied Health; Contribute to the planning, design and development of objectives and material; Support and liaise with clinical practice partners in supporting student work-related learning Transfer knowledge in the form of practical skills, methods and techniques and engage with the Simulated Based Education development; Assist with the development of the design and delivery of modules and assessment methods, working closely with colleagues on the implementation of assessment procedures, participating in the examination/assessment process. Identify learning needs of students and develop appropriate learning outcomes; Prepare well-constructed, varied teaching sessions, Ensuring that content, methods of delivery and learning materials will meet the defined learning outcomes; Embrace the importance and value of engaging in the task of education and learning together with students at all academic levels to ensure an outstanding learning experience. Oversee the work of students, provide advice on study skills and help them with learning problems; Assess the work and progress of students by reference to established criteria and provide constructive feedback to students; Seek ways of improving performance by reflecting on teaching design and delivery and obtaining and analysing feedback; Embrace the importance and value of engaging in the task of education and learning together with students at all academic levels to ensure an outstanding learning experience; Work in partnership with students to enable them to become independent learners and researchers. Qualifications

Essential

Degree and/or Post Graduate qualification in Speech and Language therapy (or equivalent speech and language therapy qualification). Current HCPC registration with no restrictions. Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists. Recent UK based clinical practice experience. Experience of practice education or supporting/supervising/teaching students in Higher Education. Demonstrable evidence of continuing professional development. Recognised teaching qualification OR be willing to work towards gaining one. Knowledge of professional body accreditation processes including approval and re-approval and reporting processes. Qualified Teacher Status/HE teaching qualification or willingness to undertake the Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education/Academic Professional. (Senior Lecturer role) Masters level qualification in related subject. Qualified Teacher Status/HE teaching qualification. Highly developed academic support and guidance skills.

Desirable
