This is an exciting time to join the Interventional Neuroradiology team in the John Radcliffe Hospital Oxford Our service is expanding with the introduction of 24/7 stroke mechanical thrombectomy service. We provide literal life changing care for patients within Oxfordshire and its surrounding counties. We have two full time band 6 nurse vacancies in our team This post includes on call working on nights, weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

We are a friendly team of nurses, radiographers, radiologists and radiology assistants delivering a high standard of care. The unique and varied nature of the speciality means that there is always something new and interesting to learn. Your role is to work as a scrub or a circulating nurse in our angiography suites as well as admitting and looking after our day case patients in the unit.

This is an opportunity for you to deliver high standard of 1 to 1 patient care. Previous experience working in a theatre environment, interventional radiology, neurosciences or stroke is desirable but not essential. You will be fully supported during your first 6 months with mentorship and a competency training package.

We have a flexible shift pattern covering Monday to Sunday 7am-midnight. On call service is provided from midnight Monday to Sunday and all day on bank holidays. Participation in the on call rota is required once sufficient experience and competency is achieved.

Job responsibilities

OVERALL OBJECTIVES

As a senior member of the neuroradiology nursing team you will demonstrate compassionate leadership and commitment to evidence-based high standard of nursing care.

We work closely with our anaesthetic colleagues as well as our colleagues from University of Oxford and cardiac catheter labs.

Scope of the role:

Provide exceptional patient care which is underpinned by evidence based practice and OUH values. Work in partnership with the patients family and friends to be actively involved in the caring process on behalf of the patient. Manage, direct and evaluate the nursing care for a defined caseload of patients. Communicate effective information to patients/relatives/carers/ and all members of the multidisciplinary team. Demonstrate high standards of nursing care, reflecting the beliefs about professional nursing practice and patient care commensurate with The Oxford Model for Exemplary Professional Nursing and Midwifery Practice. Develop and maintain specialist knowledge of nursing practice relevant to the clinical area. Undertake the responsibilities associated with being a mentor and preceptor reflecting the beliefs about professional nursing practice and patient care commensurate with the Oxford Model for Exemplary Professional and Nursing and Midwifery Practice. Demonstrably contribute towards the continuing development of professional nursing practice in the department. Conduct oneself in a professional manner and be a role model to others at all times commensurate with The Code (NMC 2015). As a member of the Neuroradiology team you will contribute by:-

Planning, delivering and evaluation of patient care. Management of the Neuroradiology Nursing Team within the clinical area. Implementing local protocols and standards with members of Multi-Disciplinary Team. Effective Management of resources within the department. Participating in clinical trials and research. Deputising for Sister / Nurse Manager when required. Providing expert clinical advice to nurses and members of the multi-disciplinary team. Person Specification
