Job summary

The Department of Child Health at King's College Hospital is located within the Variety Children's Hospital at Denmark Hill and provides a service to children and young people from the local area and wider afield.

This role will be based within the Chest Unit and Paediatric Respiratory Sleep service.

The post holder will work within the Paediatric Respiratory Physiology team to assist with the delivery of a lung function and sleep service, with or without direct supervision from a qualified Physiologist.

Main duties of the job

To assist in the provision of a quality assured lung function testing service. To take responsibility for the set up and return of home sleep monitoring equipment. Assist in the download of sleep studies and preparation of reports. To assist with the delivery of home spirometry.

Job responsibilities

LUNG FUNCTION TESTING Performing quality assured spirometry, gas transfer and lung volume measurement on children as wellas FeNO and bronchodilator responses. Performing routine maintenance, calibration and quality control of all laboratory equipment. Preparation of lung function reports under supervision of a qualified INVESTIGATION Cleaning, preparation, and issue of sleep monitoring equipment to patients and ensuring the return ofthe equipment. The preparation of sleep equipment to be sent out via courier and ensuring their return. The cleaning of all equipment that been returned from so that it is fit to be loaned to further patients. Taking equipment to the Medical Equipment Maintenance Department to ensure that it is serviced asrequired. Download of sleep studies and entering of patient details to the study records. Preparation of reports under supervision of a qualified Physiologist.GENERAL DUTIES OF THE POST Answering telephone enquiries, which may involve making appointments, reading results, answeringpatient queries or redirecting calls to the appropriate person(s). Answering the department intercom system, greeting patients on arrival in a pleasant and informativemanner. Making appointments, sending out confirmation letters and information leaflets for lung function tests. Unpacking, storing and replenishing supplies. Undertaking any additional appropriate duties to assist the Physiologists with their workload.GENERAL DUTIES AS POSTHOLDERThe post holder has a general duty of care for their own health, safety and wellbeing and that of workcolleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital, in addition to any specific risk management or clinicalgovernance accountabilities associated with this post.
