BPT is also a major provider to the tourist economy, as we own and run museums and educational activities at No. 1 Royal Crescent, the Museum of Bath Architecture, Beckford's Tower and Landscape and the Herschel Museum of Astronomy.
Summary Job Description
Bath Preservation Trust (BPT) campaigns for sustainability and design excellence in the World Heritage City of Bath and operates four museums. We deliver a public programme and learning across all service areas, including regular events for our members. The BPT Group consists of:
- Bath Preservation Trust Ltd - registered charity
- Beckford Tower Trust - unincorporated charity, of which BPT is the sole trustee
- Herschel House Trust - unincorporated charity, of which BPT is the sole trustee
- 1 Royal Crescent Ltd - trading company, wholly owned by BPT
The Director of Finance and Resources is responsible for the financial systems and accounting of BPT and its subsidiaries to ensure the sound financial management of the organisation. They also oversee the effective delivery of many of BPT's administrative operations to enable the smooth running of the charity group.
Job purpose:
- To ensure BPT carries out effective operational financial planning, monitoring and reporting.
- To ensure the provision of up-to-date financial management information to trustees and staff.
- To ensure, with the CEO, that BPT complies with all financial and fiscal statutory and external requirements and regulations, including, with advice, tax and VAT.
- To ensure the financial priorities of BPT are reflected in forward plans and the Business Plan.
- Working with the Leadership Team, the Director of Finance and Resources is a key player in creating the culture that is required for prudent financial management and to maintaining healthy financial well-being, contributing to financial risk management and legal compliance.
- Oversight of all day-to-day financial processing and recording and reconciling of transactions in the accounting records.
- Oversight of the effective delivery of many of BPT's administrative operations to enable the smooth running of the charity group.

Person Specification
Qualifications and experience
Qualified Accountant (ACCA or equivalent) with strong finance management experience, OR
A minimum of five years' experience in a similar senior finance role.
Fully conversant with accounting procedures legislation and a knowledge of charity SORP.
Day to day working with SAGE or other specialist accounting software packages.
Administration of charity trading subsidiaries.
Skills / knowledge
Advanced expertise in Excel, to manage collation and management of data.
Knowledge of SORP, charity law and VAT.
Understanding of recent and future changes to charitable reporting.
Attributes
Highly organised with excellent time management and work planning.
Very strong verbal and written communication abilities.
Good interpersonal and collaboration skills.
Committed to positive coaching, mentoring and support to non-finance colleagues.
Salary: £45,000 to £48,000 per annum
Working hours: full-time at five days per week (35 hours)
Location: the primary office base will be No. 1 Royal Crescent, Bath BA1 2LR and you will be required to work in any of BPT's locations. There is potential for some hybrid working.
