Job summary

There has never been a more exciting time to join the Perinatal Trauma & Loss Care Service (P-TLC), as we continue to grow and expand our pathways. We are seeking an enthusiastic and passionate Assistant Psychologist with a special interest in supporting women and birthing people who have experienced perinatal trauma and / or loss. We are seeking to enhance our service offer with an experienced Assistant Psychologist (B5) with previous experience working directly with adults experiencing mental health difficulties and distress. Under the supervision of a clinical Psychologist the post holder will hold an autonymous caseload and work 1:1 with these clients. The post holder will also lead on group interventions alongside our Peer Support Workers.

P-TLC is a psychologically driven service, providing countywide individual, group, and systemic support to people who have experienced perinatal trauma and loss. P-TLC Service prides itself on being a collaborative, innovative and supportive team to work in. We are a team motivated to provide the best service & advocate for trauma informed care.

We have links with the University of Lincoln midwifery and medical schools, and a close relationship with the School of Psychology including the DClinPsy. We promote CPD and have excellent learning opportunities.

Main duties of the job

Under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist, the post holder will contribute to the provision of highly specialist, co-produced, psychological input to women who have experienced loss and trauma through their maternity experience.

Under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist, the post holder will autonomously offer specialist psychological assessments, formulation and delivery of interventions to the communities we serve. The post holder will also deliver specialist trauma-informed training to midwives, trainee medics and other agencies in the development of psychologically informed maternity care.

The role is varied with opportunity for direct therapeutic intervention, MDT consultation as well as group work and training.

The post holders will have the opportunity to be part of the ongoing service development, pathway creation, service evaluation & audit

Job description

Job responsibilities

To provide one to one sessions of assessment, formulation, intervention and evaluation for mental health, emotional and/ or relational difficulties to women and birthing people in the community.

To assist in the design of and take a lead on co-ordinating and providing group therapy intervention packages to service users.

To undertake psychological assessment, utilising psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, questionaires, rating scales, and structured observations.

Carry out semi-structured interviews as part of the history taking procedure with the client, family members and other agencies involved with the client.

Analyse the results of these assessments and develop an appropriate treatment package under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist. Provide this treatment package as appropriate.

Plan and prioritise work effectively in order to combine a clinical caseload with service commitments, including audits, research, training and supervision commitments. Schedule appointments, room booking and booking test equipment.

To work collaboratively with a Multidisciplinary team to inform meeting the clients Psychological needs more widely including birth planning with midwifery for pregnant service users.

To communicate complex and sensitive information empathically, using language which is appropriate to the client group

Be able to work effectively in an environment that may be highly emotive and hostile, for example, bereavement or aggressive clients. Deal appropriately in situations requiring sensitivity and empathy

To assist in projects which evaluate the current service which contributes to service development. As part of the research project, undertake literature searches, questionnaire development, data collection, statistical analysis and the production of reports

Comply with and carry out safe practice in accordance with Trust policies and procedures, appropriate Codes of Conduct, the Mental Health Act (1983) and other relevant national and local guidance

Qualifications

Essential

Honours Degree (minimum 2:1) in Psychology. Eligibility for graduate membership of the BPS

Desirable

Registration with BPS Other related academic qualifications to Masters level Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health and/or research

Experience

Essential

Previous experience as an assistant psychologist in a employed capacity/ formal setting Direct experience of working therapeutically with adults experiencing mental health difficulties and distress Application of knowledge acquired through Psychology Degree on psychological theory to therapy

Desirable

Experience of planning & facilitating group work Experience of planning & delivering training Experience of administering and scoring psychometric tests Experience of working with perinatal mental health difficulties Experience of working with bereavement and grief Experience of working with trauma presentations Previous experience of working in the NHS
