KSS Deanery BSMS Leadership and Education Fellow

Dartford, United Kingdom Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust Full time

Job summary

The fellowship programme is open for IMT3/ST3+ level doctors.

It is a great opportunity for registrar level doctors who wish to develop their skills and experience in leadership, service improvement and education, with a view to potentially incorporating one or more of those elements in their longer-term medical career plans.

This fellowship will enable a senior trainee to work with the multidisciplinary team to further develop the project. This will embed service development and leadership skills, working with the wider hospital leadership team. This would include being a stakeholder in the hospital-wide programme to improve patient flow, attendance at patient safety reporting meetings and complaints responses.

The role has a key focus on developing the post holder's own leadership and education capability. This will be achieved through the work-based project and a bespoke development programme including the Post Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Leadership and Commissioning at BSMS.

The role includes a clinical component with the hospital at home team to enable the post holder to maintain and develop their clinical skills in addition to having direct experience in the issues faced to inform further development.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be part of our hospital at home team and would be expected to continue to develop the service, which is currently in its infancy. Leading a specific development project aligned to the post holders need and those of the service. This would involve working with and exposure to multiple stakeholders, including the Hospital@Home team, the Clinical Lead and Divisional Director for Medicine and Emergency care, the Trust Leadership Team and the People and Organisational Development group. They would join meetings on the hospital wide programme to improve patient flow and would be involved in patient safety and quality meetings.

The post holder would work within the remit of Hospital@Home, embedding themselves in the service, as well as in Acute Medicine. This exposes them to the patients at the interface of care in the home or hospital settings. By working in a clinical role, they will continue to develop their medical skills.
