Multi Disciplinary Teams have evolved over the last few years with the remit to discuss and plan care for all patients with a diagnosis of known or suspected cancer. You will lead an administration team to prepare, organise and support MDT meetings to ensure patient pathways are progressed. This includes preparing, producing and disseminating lists of patients for discussion and capturing accurate data during the MDT and live typing within the MDT to support the process. You will be required to prioritise your workload and meet deadlines. It is essential that you are highly organised and able to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team.

A full induction programme and training will be given along with opportunities for professional development in a supportive environment

Main duties of the job

You must demonstrate excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills; work well under pressure as well as your own initiative, excellent administrator, competent IT skills and strong attention to detail. Responsible for line-managing administrators, experience of supervising staff is desirable. You will be responsible for the prioritisation and delegation of the workload of the team to meet service demand and will need to work well under pressure. An enthusiastic member of the team, making a valuable contribution to the overall performance of the service. You should have the ability to maintain an open and supportive relationship with your team, encouraging professional development and demonstrating flexibility within the role.

Taking an administrative lead in the preparation of key documentation and collating as required. Working closely with clinical colleagues and associated departments to ensure that patients on a Cancer Pathway are actively managed through the Patient Pathway.

You will be required to develop and maintain a good working relationship with all staff and liaise closely with clinicians, nursing staff, and patient administration staff at all levels throughout the Trust. The postholder must have excellent communication skills, be organised.

Job responsibilities

The MDT Co-ordinator will provide a comprehensive administrative service to support and cover the Multidisciplinary Teams (MDTs) and ensure the effective management of accurate and timely data to enable clinical decision-making at MDT meetings when required.

The post-holder will coordinate, proactively manage and track patients against the National Cancer Waiting Times Standards. They will escalate problems to CSU management and the Lead Cancer Team in a timely manner so that remedial action can be taken where necessary to ensure the Cancer Waiting Times targets are met.

Where appropriate the individual may manage a small team of staff, ensuring cover arrangements and support is available for the smooth running of the MDT. The individual will also provide cover to the MDTs, in the specialities in most need of resources, especially in times of annual leave, sickness/absence, and during periods of transition between appointments.

Qualifications

Essential

Minimum of GCSE or equivalent RSA level II or equivalent Knowledge of medical terminology NVQ Level III or equivalent experience

IT/CLAIT ECDL or willingness to undertake training

Through knowledge of patient administration processes Experience of working in a customer/patient focussed environment Use of database system in a working environment Experience of organising meetings and taking minutes and/or live typing
