Job overview

This Registered Nurse Degree Apprentice (RNDA) role enables existing Health Care Support Workers & new recruits to the trust to achieve a registered nurse qualification.

The Registered Nurse Degree Apprentice (RNDA) will work within a multidisciplinary team and have the knowledge and skills to work at a high level of competence within agreed protocols. with clearly defined lines of accountability & under the supervision of a registered nurse.

The RNDA will be employed by a base placement for the equivalent of 2 days per week. They will attend university for the equivalent of 1 day per week & will be placed within a range of clinical placements across the trust for the equivalent of 2 days per week.

Whist remaining a learner the RNDA will provide safe, personal and effective care and support both patients and their families

RNDA’s will be expected to complete both academic assessments & demonstrate that they are meeting clinical proficiencies throughout the course.

The RNDA will support the registered nurse, contributing to ongoing assessment and care planning for patients.

The RNDA will be expected to monitor the condition and health needs of patients on a continual basis in partnership with colleagues, families and carers, referring to others for reassessment when required.

Communicate sensitive information effectively and improve communication using a range of strategies with regard to person centred care, duty of candour, equality and diversity

Main duties of the job

Deliver high quality, compassionate care under the direction of a Registered Nurse with a focus on promoting health and independence . Have proficient attitudes and behaviours compatible with NHS Values. Work as part of a designated clinical and care team delivering care that focuses on the direct needs of the individual . Carry out specific delegated clinical and care tasks and responsibilities to a high standard and competency. Work with an assessor to take responsibility for developing own clinical competence, leadership and reflective practice skills within the workplace, while on placements and through attending the apprentice Programme. Develop and improve practical and theoretical knowledge, competence and skills throughout the Apprentice Programme. Undertake clinical tasks under direct supervision. Ensure the privacy, dignity and safety of individuals is maintained at all times. Demonstrate the ability to recognise changing priorities. Report back and share information with the registered nurses on the condition, behaviour, activity and responses of individuals. Recognise issues relating to safeguarding vulnerable children and adults and report accordingly. Assist in the implementation of appropriate action to meet the specific physical, emotional and psychological, social, cultural and spiritual needs of individuals and carers.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Undertake clinical tasks including cannulation, venepuncture, ECGs Accurately record nutritional and fluid intake. Ensure the privacy, dignity and safety of individuals is maintained at all times. Demonstrate the ability to recognise changing priorities seeking advice and guidance from the Registered Nurse or other registered care professionals as appropriate. Report back and share information with the registered nurses on the condition, behaviour, activity and responses of individuals. Recognise issues relating to safeguarding vulnerable children and adults and report any problems or raise concerns to the appropriate registered care professionals . Assist in the assessment of and contribute to the management of risk across several areas within the environment where care is being administered. Assist in the implementation of appropriate action to meet the specific physical, emotional and psychological, social, cultural and spiritual needs of individuals and carers.

Person specification Essential Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse Associate or Assistant Practitioner
  • Minimum of 12 months in an Assistant Practitioner role or Nurse Associate Role
  • Completed Medicine Management module
  • English and Maths Qualification at GCSE Grade 4/ C or Equivalent
  • Typically 96 UCAS Points
  • BTEC Extended Diploma: Merit, Merit, Merit BTEC Diploma: Distinction, Distinction Pass Access Course: 96-112 UCAS Points IELTS: 6.5 (with no component below 6.5) or equivalent taken within two years prior to your course commencement date
General Intelligence Essential criteria

  • Able to manage the care for a group of people and prioritise workload with minimal supervision.
  • Able to write basic reports.

  • Be competent in Safer handling theory and practise
