An Ofsted-rated GOOD secondary school in Oxford is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Head of English to join their dedicated team from September 2024. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and skilled leader to take the helm of a dynamic English department and contribute to the ongoing success and development of the school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the English department, ensuring high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment.
  • Develop and implement a strategic vision for the department in line with the school’s overall goals and ethos.
  • Inspire, motivate, and support a team of English teachers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning within the department, ensuring all students achieve their full potential.
  • Oversee the planning, delivery, and assessment of the English curriculum across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
  • Collaborate with other heads of departments and the senior leadership team to contribute to whole-school initiatives and improvement strategies.
  • Manage departmental budgets and resources effectively to support high-quality teaching and learning.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in English or a related field.
  • Substantial teaching experience within the secondary school sector, with a proven track record of excellent classroom practice.
  • Previous leadership experience within a school setting, ideally as a Head of Department or in a similar role.
  • A strong understanding of the English curriculum and the ability to lead its development across all key stages.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • A commitment to the safeguarding and welfare of all students, adhering to school policies and procedures.
  • A passion for literature and language, with the ability to inspire a love of English in students of all abilities.
