Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior LeDeR reviewer to join the LeDeR (Learning from lives and deaths of people with Learning Disabilities and/or Autism) Programme team in Coventry & Warwickshire. This role will work across the Integrated Care System (ICS).

The post holder will provide specialist skills and knowledge in order to undertake high quality reviews within the targets set by NHS England. The post holder will be driven by improving the lives of people with a learning disability and autistic people, including their access to, experience, and outcomes of care.

The post holder will lead a small team of reviewers, undertaking and allocating LeDeR reviews, as well as supporting reviewers to conduct their review activity. The Senior Reviewer will provide line management and clinical supervision to the reviewers.

The post holder will keep up to date with current relevant research and best practice and will act as a highly specialist resource to care providers and colleagues in health and social care.

Main duties of the job

To have highly developed specialist knowledge of the procedures and practices of health and social care, underpinned by theoretical knowledge and relevant practical experience.

To be part of a small team dedicated to the completion of high-quality reviews utilising a range of information, for individuals who have died and have a diagnosis of a learning disability and/or autism.

To complete high quality reviews which identify specific provider SMART actions, as well as wider themes and trends across the Coventry & Warwickshire footprint

Communicate with a range of internal and external stakeholders

To present focused reviews to the LeDeR Governance Group and lead conversations of best practice and learning to be actioned.

To support the Transformation Lead in the delivery of the monthly LeDeR subgroup

To lead on discrete projects to improve the quality of care of services for people with learning disability and /or autism.

To lead on the quarterly LeDeR focus group held with Grapevine and Expert's by Experience

To support the LeDeR admin team in the collation of review documents.

To lead on preparing reports and delivering presentations on highly contentious health issues to a wide range of audiences

About us

Learning from the Lives and Deaths of People with a Learning Disability and Autistic People (LeDeR) has been in place since 2017. This is part of a national service improvement programme; the LeDeR Programme seeks to identify factors influencing health inequality and premature deaths in order to influence effective change in health and social care provision for people with learning disability and autistic adults.

NHS Coventry and Warwickshire ICB is responsible for commissioning health and care services on behalf of people in Coventry and Warwickshire. The LeDeR team in Coventry and Warwickshire are passionate and committed to making a meaningful contribution to improving the health outcomes for people with learning disability and/or autism.

Job responsibilities

To complete high quality reviews efficiently in line with the local SOP and within national timescale requirements.

To conduct both initial and focussed reviews, working collaboratively with the review team and other partners.

To be responsible for the day-to-day management and supervision of the Band 6 LeDeR Reviewers

Senior LeDeR reviewers are expected to work collegiately and provide peer support to other reviewers, particularly around their own area of expertise as well as supporting induction of new colleagues and mentorship when required.

The postholder will be expected to oversee the reviews conducted by the B6 LeDeR Reviewers, highlight any concerns in quality of care, and support the reviewers to conduct a high quality review in line with national standards.

To share, present and submit the learning from completed reviews with the local teams and other partners to support identification of learning that can be actioned.

To support and foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement across provider care services to reduce harm to people with learning disabilities and/or autism.

To collate and analyse information from completed reviews and feedback to local groups and other forums as required.

The postholder will need to have the ability to convey and present complex, sensitive and possibly contentious information to a range of audiences - this information includes, but is not limited to, feedback to and from families of deceased clients as well as learning and feedback from reviews which may challenge system partners and local groups.

Build and maintain relationships with key personnel, including social care and other health care providers, to ensure that reviews are fully informed and that knowledge and information is shared across internal and external stakeholders to improve learning disability and autism care across Coventry and Warwickshire.

Ensure reviews and associated outcomes are delivered on time to quality standards.

Encourage and promote a culture that values openness, honesty, rigour and challenge.

The postholder will maintain their knowledge and expertise on local and national policy and demonstrate personal commitment to continuous self-development and service improvement.

The postholder will be responsible for policy implementation & development of the review programme at local level.

The postholder must maintain high standards of documentation and adhere to the national LeDeR programme requirements.

The postholder will be responsible for escalating concerns regarding gaps in provision and identify when a multi-agency investigation is required safeguarding reviews.

The postholder must have a working knowledge of financial processes and have previous experience in budget setting. The post holder will be responsible for procurement of physical assets or supplies for the review team.

The postholder must have the capability to plan over short, medium and long-term timeframes and be able to adjust plans and resources appropriately.

The postholder will be responsible in planning and organising a range of workstreams in relation to the programme and operational planning of the review service on a daily basis. Contributes to business planning with respect to the delivery of the review programme at local level.

The post holder must be highly organised, being self-motivated and organise own workload without supervision working to tight and often changing timescales.

Establish, and maintain key effective working relationships with stakeholders including healthcare providers to build knowledge around the range and quality of services being provided.

The post holder will ensure that Safeguarding principles are considered and applied within all elements of the LeDeR programme the post holder will establish links with key local Safeguarding contacts and ensure that any concerns are reported as per Safeguarding Children and Adults policies.

There is no direct patient/client care involved in this role. Whilst this role does not deliver direct patient care the results of the reviews, and the reports provided back to NHSE, are key in developing care for patients with Learning Disabilities, ensuring they have the best possible care plans in place. The post holder is therefore providing highly specialist input to patient care.
